I apologize if this has been covered before. I am still new here. I recently got my wife a Ruger LCP22 because she wants to take the CC class. I know the .22LR is not ideal, but I prefer a .22LR to a pointy stick, and she is a novice with firearms. Imagine that after being married to me for nearly a half-century.🤣I'm just tickled that she has finally taken an interest. The little handgun is fun to shoot, even though it isn't my first choice for a .22 handgun ( my favorite is the Browing Buckmark Hunter). First, (IMO) the positives 1. It is compact. 2. It fits her hand well. 3. It is very concealable. 4. It is a Ruger. 5. It holds 10 rounds. 6. It is pretty reliable with the proper ammo, it seems to like CCI Blazer and Stinger, I've got some other brands that we haven't tried yet, but it hates Federal ( Auto-Match especially) with about a 40% FTF and FTE rate. 7. It is simple to take down and clean. 8. The slide is easy to operate. Now the negatives. ! The magazine is difficult for her to fill with ammo, with no little knob to slide the follower down to assist in loading. 2. The awkward safety. 3. That confounded unnecessary magazine disconnect. I was wondering about other's thoughts/opinions about this pistol. I know it is suboptimal for a defense weapon, but she ain't ready for a 9mm, .380, .38 Special, or more firearm. She has to start somewhere.

Consider the CCI Velocitor ammo. I'm a fan. Haven't seen anyone get in line to be shot with even a 22 and will as you said be far superior to the pointy stick. If you can get your hands on a Ruger SR22 or Taurua TX22 for the class or the S&W equivalent, I bet she'd enjoy the heck out of it. Just my 2 cents. I have taught dozens of people to shoot with these as an intro and not one has not gone further in their undertaking to become proficient. Refuse to be a victim.

I carry one of these in my jeans pocket when I’m walking or need a small carry. Anything CCI that’s not subsonic does great. Mine likes Federal Punch. It hates uppercut and other large HP’s.

Agree with LCP22 + Velocitors. That is a nasty little round!!

As an alternative, you can try the LCP Max 380.
Double stack, AND with the factory 12 round mags (with the extension on them), it’s actually FUN to shoot!!

I drag one around pretty constantly, small as heck, shoots ten rounds. Till I hear rounds being fired in anger around me on a regular basis, I think Ill be just fine being so terribly undergunned.

The factory loader works pretty well if you give it a chance. Mine has been remarkably reliable with Aquila 38gr CPHP bulk box. And everything else. Like no misfires. No jams, no FTE's etc. I did have two lite strikes the first mag thru it (Stingers of all things), and not a hiccup since. Federal Punch seems to be the prudent carry rounds.

Me and my wife used a Ruger Mark 3 Hunter with a scope for our concealed carry class. It was cheaper ammo and we were poor then haha

I am carrying mine today around The Gnomestead and on an earlier visit to a backyard sawmill. I prefer to run the CCI SGB (Small Game Bullet) which is a flat point bullet at 1235 fps.

I considered one before I got the LCP max. The issue of rimfire ammo not being as consistent as centerfire is what made me go for the .380

I agree with ya there. For a number of reasons, a while back I decided to limit myself to a .22 carry piece, be it regular strength or full flavor mag, auto or revolver, and 2 years on I've got a rather ridiculous variety, and the LCPII, which I expected to come in last has run rings around all the others. The tiny cheap 22 auto comes in for the win on reliability, that's the horse I would have never put my money on.

Still tho if I have any solid reason to expect trouble, I do go with centerfire, I strap on the big boy.....

Mr. Thirty Two oh how do you do?

Had one, sold it. Only worked with the hot “stuff”, and half the time with it. Loved the size and concept but it didn’t work for me.

My experience:

I also have a LCP in .380, it is my "church pistol" for when I don't want to carry anything larger. I have a S&W 340PD and use Hornady Personal Defence rounds in .38 Special. That little rascal is painful to shoot full speed .357 Magnums.
As for full-size handguns, I have accumulated some .44 Magnums, .45ACP 1911s, 4 or 5 "Tree-fiddy-seben" Magnums, 5 or 6 in 9mm, and a handful of .22LRs.
My dad used to hunt rabbits and squirrels with his Ruger Mark I.

Had to come back and reread this thread. I had been eyeing at LCP one in 380, but yesterday saw an LCP 22 used but looked unfired for just a few bucks more. Not having to buy another caliber plus I do like having a safety on a pocket pistol, I might have to go that direction. Am I crazy for considering an even smaller caliber?

With pretty significant osteoporosis and esp in her wrists, my wife has a pretty wide selection of different rimfire handguns and at some point that number with the number of ammo offerings prompted her to take a bunch of each to the range and actually make notes in her phone as to which ammo played nicely (or didn’t) with which handguns. She does this roughly annually or when she acquires a new gun and I see the following is the last I was Cc:ed on and it is from OCT 28, 2022 (she’s gotten at least a half dozen new guns since then :-/ but, you get the gist … (she did the same thing with about six different 22 WMR offerings for her other LCR; however; she put labels directly on each box and wrote her preferences on those labels)

So far, I have 100% success on Remington Thunderbolts ( I haven't tried the Wildcat but in other firearms, they are very inconsistent.) in bulk packs. CCI Blazer and Mini Mag are the same. Surprisingly, the Winchester Wildcat with the same bullet weight and advertised muzzle velocity is about 50% with 100% failure with a complete magazine (FTF &FTE) With the Federal ammo the nearly the same.

I would not want to be on the receiving end of a .22, even though the may not be as powerful. They have very mild recoil and not as loud as a .380. I have little use for a safety because of the long trigger pull, and I detest the magazine disconnect.

My LCP2-22 has a trigger with a very heavy pull, much heavier than my LCP2-380.

I can think of few things more personally intimidating than facing a scared and/or pissed off woman with a .22 pocket rocket in her hand.
Good Point… maybe not a good choice for one’s wife.

If you pull a firearm on someone I doubt they're wondering if its a 22 or not. I put a green crimson trace laser on the Mrs Amnesia's lcp22 so there isn't a question of can she hit me with it.
