RWD sedans - input requested

I’ve been thinking the last few days of selling my ZR2 and buying another car. The truck is great, and I’ll probably list it here if/when I decide to sell. But with one daughter starting college next year and another only a few years behind, I need to think of ways to save some money. And at the gas pump is probably a good start.
So that led me to sedans, like the Accord, Civic, Altima, etc. But the more I think about it, the more I’d rather have a RWD for the driving experience. It doesn’t need to have the most powerful engine, especially since I’m trying to increase my MPG. But I want a fun daily driver again.

Top of my list is the Stinger. Discontinued, but they were made for 5 years so should be able to find some out there.
Next up was the GS350. Also discontinued.
Farther down the list due to purchase price and cost of maintenance are the German boys: the 3-series, 5-series and Audis.

What else should I be looking at? RWD, sedan, CarPlay, modern LED headlights are some requirements. But would consider anything at this time as I’ve just started searching.
 
All I know is that the ‘81 Cutlass Supreme w/350 DIESEL that was my first (drivable) car was all sorts of fun. Especially in Michigan winters!
 
I liked this post then chuckled thinking “it’ll check the fun box but jeez the mpg is probably better on the ZR2!” I was wrong, 18/26 is pretty good for a performance protected sedan.
After owning one BMW, I won’t do that again. I’d take a solid look at the CT5-V.

GM AFM engines are problematic but they get great overall MPG.

I tend to be a fan of crown vics but a surplus 6.0 caprice would be a fun ride to mess around with as well.

Keep truck, get a gas sipper as a daily

Its worked for me for many years

I did the same but after crunching numbers I saved no money when factoring in purchase price/insurance/taxes/upkeep. Now we just have trucks 😂

It really saved me money when i was commuting 30k miles a year out here, diesel would've bankrupted me
 
I know several people that have had Cadillacs, none of them liked them. One called it his Crapillac. He wanted to like it - it was a really nice car when it worked. Another is willing to lease one for a few years, but never buy again.

When you think about buying a car, look at the resale value of comparable models from 5 or so years ago from the same maker. That will a) tell you whether people actually like them, and b) what the depreciation will be, which is a big part of the cost of ownership.

An $80K Porsche Cayenne will probably lose less value off the lot and after 5 years than a $50K Cadillac. And Porsche is between Toyota and Lexus in the CR reliability and satisfaction ratings. Cadillac is... not. Probably not in the box you are considering :) but think outside the box. I do not have a Cayenne in case you are wondering - just an example.

Yeah I’m driving 35k+ a year. With the truck getting about 16 mpg, the gas pump is really hitting hard.

Buy something with tge highest mpg you can find (manual prefered, nobody maintains their transmission properly), early/late 90s hondas/toyotas are perfect.

Geo metro, ford festiva/aspire also...etc

None of the bs current vehicles have and cheap to maintain

Unless I'm missing something, all Audis (with the possible exception of an R8 variant) are quattro 4wd or front wheel drive. Here in the US it seems the vast majority are quattro, so not sure these are going to fit your requirement for RWD.

I'd throw in a Charger into the mix as well.. if you can get something with the 6.4 like a Scat Pack that hasn't been molested, but the build quality might not get you where you want to be.

Also Chevy SS was a street sleeper, but might not be modern enough.
