S&W M&P Shield plus review.

Speaking of Shield sights, any one know what the height is for the OEM front Shield sight, please. Want to order a f/o replacement.
According to my calipers, the front sight height off a Shield 2.0 45, which should be the same as all current Shields (assuming they didn’t change them on the Plus) is 1.565, and total height (from the bottom of the dovetail) is 2.30, and the blade is 1.36 wide. The rear notch is 1.40 wide which for all intents is the same width. I prefer the front blade be about .020 narrower than the notch for faster target acquisition.

If it were me I’d buy a matched set in whatever configuration you want.

And be sure you have a quality sight pusher, because it was a bitch pushing this front sight off. Nearly destroyed the oem front sight

check their reviews before buying from them
I paid more to buy from other dealers after trying to work with them over phone and email
I’ve actually bought a few guns from them, the most recent early last year. Never had an issue and they always have great prices, but I also never had to contact them for anything, did it all online. I bet they’re swamped like everyone else and can’t spend much time on CS, unfortunately.

If I'm reading the M&P forum correctly, the OEM Shield 9mm front sight is .165. Dawson offers a .160 f/o that I've used before and plan on adding to the new Plus.

If they have one that’s .120 wide I think that would be perfect with the factory rear sight

The most difficult mag I have ever tried to load is a Single Stack Shield in 45. Is this better , the same or worse?

Picked up a Shield Plus 9mm yesterday at Ed's Gun Shop. I agree with the OP's review after shooting it this afternoon. I really like the stipling, which is more aggressive than the original Shield. I own two (2) original shields, and added Talon grips to both. I think the grip texture on the Shield Plus is just right. I also like the trigger on the Plus, especially the flat face trigger. Straight out of the box it shoots really nice. I inspected the primer strike on the Shield Plus spent ammo versus some of the older Shield spent ammo, and could not tell a noticeable difference. The pistol actually feels the same as the old Shield, but it seems easier to shoot and to hold on target. Shot several magazines, some rapid fire, and no failures yet. Fits my old Shield kydex holsters perfectly. I really like this pistol so far. I think it is probably considered "expensive", but who cares in today's world. I bought my 2nd Shield when the crazy rebates were being offered, and IIRC, I got it for about $200 after rebate. Go figure. Hard to figure how they got 13+ rounds from a pistol that is the same size as the original 7-8 round versions. That is PROGRESS.

But, the regular Shield with the Magguts +2 in the formerly 8 round mag is 10+1 capacity for $30 some odd dollars. So why get a new gun if you've already got the Shield?

I do not trust the Maggots. I have no logical reason for this, or anecdotal experience...I just don't trust them.
I cannot quantify why, I just have an uneasy feeling about them and that persistent nagging feeling causes me anxiety
And if I ever lose 100% trust in a carry gun, I stop carrying immediately. Immediately!
I stopped carrying lots of guns for this reason; for example the Honor Defense 9mm, which was similar to the Shield.

Also I shoot IDPA with them, and a 10 round magazine let's me shoot in a different division.

I’m planning on getting one just because it’s dimensions are roughly same the original Shield. Plus I seem to shoot the Shield better than the 43/43x/48 and just overall enjoy it better.

As others have mentioned, I don’t trust the maggots. I had one in a magazine that I got in trade but I never carried with it in just used it for range purposes. Never had a problem with using it, but deep in my gut I didn’t trust it.

though with this release, I am tempted to buy back my 2.0 shield from a buddy who desperately wants to buy this one but needs funds to supplement it

I have experience with Magguts. Converted two OEM mags to "plus 2" During a period of 6 weeks both conversion springs jammed half way up the tube. Fortunately while I was at the range. I chucked all of it into the bin.
But the bigger attraction to the Plus are the re-designed features. The M.2 grip texture is more than I can stand, and the newly designed trigger are enough for me.

Saw one lf these pass through work on a transfer....

If I didnt know these existed, and didnt pay close attention Id have thought it was a normal Shield.... until one pops the mag to make sure its clear.

*shrug* still not for me though.... never liked the M&P's :/

Its cool to see more stuff come out though.

This forces other Gun makers to innovate. All gun owners win with introductions like this.

MANY thanks to Savage Acutrigger for making the others come to the table with a good trigger. Also, thanks to Sig for 365. It fits all us shooters with girlish hands like they were made especially for us.

Sig gets loads of praise for single handedly forcing the entire gun industry to change course, and meet customers Demand.

Finally shot one in a match.
Observations:
1- the grip texture on the magazine base pad is a liability. It's great on the gun grip, but not the base pad. It clung to my shirt, and it clung to the inside if my pants pocket. Will dremel that smooth as soon as possible. It really cost me a lot of seconds reloading, and spun the mag around in my pocket at one point.

2- the fatter grip made me more accurate. It's just a little bigger than the original Shield, but the small increase makes a good difference for my hand.

3- Absolutely reliable. Ran it with case gauge rejects from my USPSA ammo meant for a CZ Shadow 2...and it ran great. Kinda expected one failure, but they ran flawlessly. Ammo was 137 power factor.

4- holy crap Im out of practice with these little guns. They say shooting is a perishable skill; if true then shooting little guns is a double perishable skill, and reloading these little mags is triple perishable.

And the magazines on yours were easy to load too Jeppo! :)
I’m pretty sure we only loaded 12 at your place. When I finally got the 13th round in the magazine (emphasize FINALLY), the bottom witness hole was filled with brass.
