So my neighbor and I made a saddle rack to go in my living room. I picked up a beautifully figured piece of wood for the ends. He had some also nicely figured poplar he cut off his place. That looks great! I’m going to build one this winter to go in my den for Dad’s old saddle. I’m looking for an original military saddle if anyone has one they want to part with.

I see them in antique stores alot. I'll keep an eye out. How much you wanna spend?
 
that looks sweet. and not a staple's worth of metal in it?
how come you have pegs to keep the legs from splaying out, but not collapse in?
I really only build things in my dreams, so excuse my ignorance.

very good question. So the cross board has been cut down and the hole is 1/4 smaller than the 1x6. there is a "lip" on the inside and glue in the joint so it wont collapse in. If that makes sense.....

Depends on what it is and the condition. A lot of them have been modernized and that ruins the saddle.

aaah, sneaky. i can see it in my head
my wife started organizing the garage and suddenly i have some space. so... who knows...
