Saturday Morning 10-21-17 Deer...got it.

[Cocked & Locked]

Shot this deer in Vance County NC Saturday morning @ 8:00. Weighed 180 pounds, 8-point, 19" wide rack.

No corn involved...hunting white oaks with lots of acorns on the ground. Buck came through in semi-fast trot with head low to the ground. I figure it was on the trail of a doe that came through before daylight.

Favorite .35 Whelen load of 200 grain Hornady Interlock Spire Point over 57.0 grains of IMR 4064 did the job. In-and-out lots of blood...nose dived dead in about 20 feet. Swollen neck, smelling bad and in rut.

The good looking old man in the picture below is not my dad, and it ain't my granddad, it be me.

Nice deer! Did not know they rutted this early in the eastern part of the state, but guess it makes sense. Good shooting.
