We got a 6 pack of small CR1616 coin batteries in a box that size. The batteries are about the size of a dime and they would have fit in a standard envelope just fine.

My niece works for an Amazon warehouse and she says the algorithm is trying to fit things nicely in the truck to keep things balanced and minimize shifting. It still gets messed up sometimes when it thinks a package is going to be delivered today but it doesn’t make the truck.

Xerox would send a part in a padded envelope 5x7" in a carton that size with paper packing. ☹️
