This one just sounds weird: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/3-dead-shooter-killed-at-tehama-county-school/ar-BBEXI9M

Three dead in a shooting incident that started at a home and ended in a school. Not much information. Shooter killed by the cops. Shooter apparently stole a truck and shot the truck owner's roommate. School was cleared of children.

Of course then they spin the angle about the shooter was supposedly known to shoot a lot and had lots of ammunition

"The crazy thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines," he said. "This guy has been crazy, and he's been threatening us and everything. I just feel like there maybe should have been more effort put into stopping things like this."

From what I heard was that they where near the school and not on school grounds, but up to 5 crime scenes.

"Jeanine Quist, an administrative assistant with the Corning Union Elementary School District, said no one was killed at the school but a "number" of students were shot and wounded." from the link above.

Merged the two threads...

Need more gun control in the People’s Republic of Kalifornia

Some witnesses said the guy is a known felon and has a history of threatening the neighbors. Complaints had been filed.

I say it is using capital punishment vs life. Clears room for more.

Yet again another money argument. I'm not sure the cost now but in the late 90's it cost 175k to house an inmate for life vs 7.5 million in legal fees etc to enforce death penalty.

Why would the Dept of Justice be called in?

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office has asked the Department of Justice to investigate the shooting, Johnston told KRCR. He added the FBI volunteered to investigate, as well.

If all the reporting is on track here, the perp grew up in Raleigh, where his mother still lives. She posted his $160k bond and lawyer fees to bail him out of charges for stabbing his neighbors back in January. Appears to be mental health problems and violence on the mother's side of the family.

"His mother said until recently Neal seemed content living in the rural neighborhood of modest homes and trailers and he grew marijuana on his property. Recently she said he began complaining about failing health he attributed to the nearby methamphetamine labs."

I see Proposition 63 aka Gunmaggeddon is working as well as the Lt. Gov Newsome said it would.

"Following a year marked by a series of mass shootings, voters on Tuesday approved Proposition 63, which toughens California's already strict gun control laws.

The initiative outlaws the possession of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, requires background checks for people buying bullets, makes it a crime not to report lost or stolen guns, and provides a process for taking guns from people upon their conviction for a felony."

""It was a repudiation of the National Rifle Assn. and the gun lobby. They lost badly," Newsom said in an interview. "It’s a very important initiative because I think it’s the beginning of a national debate on relinquishment (by felons) and ammunition background checks that will I think will have a very significant impact on reducing gun violence in this country.”

Oh ok Gavin. Nobody told this guy's sheriff's dept and evidently he was able to buy ammo.

In the LA times story here, there is a little wiggle I noticed:

"Neal fired eight rounds into a Ford F-250 occupied by a mother and her son who were headed to school. The boy suffered non-life-threatening wounds, but the mother was seriously injured, Johnston said. The mother, who had a concealed carry permit, pulled out her own handgun but was unable to fire it before Neal drove away, Johnston said."

Interesting if only for those who are interested in a 'truck gun' concept

Oh and that "relinquishment" for a guy who attacked his neighbor with a knife and was out on bond?

"
A Tehama County judge then ordered Neal to surrender all firearms. Court records show that he turned in one gun in February and claimed he didn’t own any more.

Also from the LA Times "He did not legally own any of the guns, Johnston said. The two rifles were “manufactured illegally by him in his home” and unregistered, and the pistols were registered to another person, he said."

Glad to see that gun registration working so well. Let's pass some more gun control!
