I thinking about adding a scotch or 2 to the cabinet. Not sure about these. Was not interested in spending $100 on a bottle. Anybody know about these?

Probably been 30 years now, but my only experience with Scotch was like drinking sap from a pine tree. Maybe it was cheap stuff, probably was, but I haven't tried scotch since way back then.

In the early 80's, I wanted to impress my father-in-law who drank J&B Scotch and so I tried it and before the night was over, I was sick as a dog. It was about 35 years before I tried scotch again and it was not a blend. I can drink a single malt as long as it is not peaty.

I’m much more into bourbon for regular drinking but I’ve bought several bottles of the Aberlour 12 over the last few years. I really enjoy it.

Aberlour and Dalmore are both good choices. If you are a bourbon drinker and don’t like barrel finished bourbons, try Dalwinnie or Balviene. I like finished bourbons like Angels Envy or Joseph Magnus so I also like port/Sherry finished scotch.
Maybe also try MacCallan 12.

Dalmore is good.

IMO it is very hard to beat Glen Livet 15 year old French oak reserve. It is hands down my favorite for the money.

Macallan in the affordable range is a close second.

Now if you can grab a bottle of macallan 18 year old it is absolutely fantastic. But steep.

If you can find it anywhere Glen Livet Nadura is a really interesting drink. Something to do with the way they filter that it turns cloudy as ice melts into it.

Johnny walker green label is the only one of that brand worth a damn except blue but blue isn’t worth the money IMO.

My mother tells of having had a bad tooth on a Saturday and not being able to get to a dentist till Monday. Drank Cutty Sa until the pain stopped and then puked in the bushes by the door. To this day, she can’t stand the smell of Cutty Sark.

I will say, a good Scotch whiskey is an acquired taste, but once you’ve got it.

I had a friend that we’d trade a bottle of Chivas Regal on our birthdays. Different bottles as they got drank.

I alway found the peat in dalwinnie and Balveine to be at too smoky for my taste.

Agree on the macallan 12.

Dalmore from your choices above.
There are better that the ones above, and a $100 bottle of single malt scotch is much different than a $20 bottle of blended.
Whatever you choose make it a single malt.

hey Scotch drinkers — a friend gave me a bottle of 18 year old Macallan sherry oak cask highland single malt scotch
should I let my wife use it for cooking or should I just pour it down the sink?

If you let your wife cook with it you need to be tar and feathered. Get her a $15 bottle to cook with.

I always have MacAllan and LaPhroaig on hand... MacAllan for people who like good single malt and LaPhroaig for Scots. Sometimes a visiting Anglishman will sip his MacAllan and ask me what LaPhroaig tastes like, and I tell him, "It tastes like asphalt." That way, there's more for me.

I have Lafroig, Lagavulin, McCallen 12, and Johnny Walker Black in the cabinet.
The McCallen 18 is in a different galaxy and belongs in a safe…. :)

yep. There are better ways to use alcohol… like removing paint.
I bought a bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean as a gift for my mother who likes bourbon. I got it on the recommendation of someone I was chatting with in the ABC store a while back.

Lets say it’s like smooth bourbon mixed with the aftertaste of fish that makes you think of a girls unwashed nether regions.

That bottle has been lasting a long time and I don’t see another in its future.

I’ll take it off your hands. It’ll be gone in a couple days.
