OK guys I have been wanting to shoot the shield in 45. I wanna get my grubby hands on one before i decide to make a purchase. Does anybody have one, how do you like it and can you let a man shoot it?
 
I've been wondering the same thing. I've got a Shield 9 as my EDC and really like it, so I'm curious about the 45 flavor...

Yea its not badly priced i just want to take a test drive before i buy
 
If you get one, be sure to look real good at the cocking lug on the underside of the slide. A friend showed me his new .45 Shield this past Saturday and the machine marks were so deep that it was causing a "gritty" feel to the slide when bringing it into battery. He told me that he only felt it when there was a full or mostly full mag in the weapon. I asked him to send me a pic and the height of the machine marks was unbelievable. It appears that the mill made it's pass way too fast and left an almost scalloped surface. I tried to post the pic but it keeps telling me that the pic's size is too large...and I'm not real sure of how to resize it right now. I'll try to add it later. I advised him to promptly return the pistol for a replacement and not to try to get crazy with his Dremel! I can only surmise that S&W was trying to meet demand by setting the speeds up a bit too far on their milling machines. I am surprised that they let that one out the door. maybe QC was on break at that time. If you want to see the pic, PM me with a contact # and I'll text it to ya.

So, what do you guys think;
1.) mill speed too high?
2.) loose slide in milling jig?
3.) hammered or MIA QC inspector?
 
Yes i Think #2 as well someone was trying to meet demand with shotty production. oh well happens sometimes hope he got a replacement.

Actually, it does. He brought it to me to look at because he said it "felt gritty or rough" when he racked the slide. I tried it and yep, it felt like you were dragging a draw knife over an ear of dried corn when the slide was racked. I realize that the weapon would still function as is but it's a brand new weapon with warranty so why not get it swapped out with one that isn't "scalloped"? He's fairly new to pistols as well. He paid for one that was flaw free so I don't blame the guy for wanting one that is as it should be.

The crazy thing is that you can feel the machine marks hang on your fingernail if you drag them across the cocking lug, towards the ejection port.

That most likely wasn't the cause of what you were feeling as that part of the slide doesn't contact anything unless you're charging the gun on a full mag and even then it doesn't affect the function and you'd only feel it that first time since the gun charges itself afterwards. There's plenty of discussion around this topic on various forums. Nothing wrong with getting it fixed if it bothers anyone though.

I have one on order ,don't know how long it will be but I will let you know when I get it. I had my hand on one weekend before last at a shop near Boone and they also had a like new S&W model 60 no dash that looked as if it had never been fired for $400. Guess you know why I didn't get the 45 Shield

The match director from Buccaneer Gun Club was up here shooting the BUG match with us this weekend and shooting a Shield 45.
 
I have been told by more than one member of this forum that has (had) one of these that the finish on the handle will rub your side raw when carrying IWB.

You know i cant walk into a gun shop around here without hearing how they are flying off the shelf but i can't seem to find one anyone owns. I see you live in the Triangle so I doubt we would be able to meet up. I do miss living there. I had a good friend who use to help me with my gun upgrades fieldgrade

9146gt thats not a bad price at all i did fondle one today and i can say i wasnt to enthused with the grip. I still wanna see how it shoots before i make up my mind.
