Shipbuilding behind schedule...

If the US ever ramps up the nuclear power industry, there will be even more parts and labor shortages. New plants are built using modular construction, much like the ships, and consequently, utilize many of the same private sector vendors and fabricators. There was a sizeable turret sitting in the corner of the shop last time I visited a supplier in the Charleston area.
 
That article is accurate, but barely scratches the surface. I was in when we shifted from mil-spec equipment to COTS under the Clinton Administration. The associated headaches are what now keep me employed.

Yeah but they already took the bribes for those contracts, so.....

It's a numbers racket. They are trying for divert the money to Columbia class subs. They are on the same page as the Marines about how many boats they need (31). I think there is some discrepancy on which amphibs they want.
