There's nothing like hands on experience.Courthouse stuff can get out of control super fast. Most bailiffs are younger and have little to no experience in actual fights in my experience. The best bailiffs are retired old school troopers that work 15-20 hours a week. If you ever go to court pay attention because that old man bailiff is most likely more badass than 10 of today's 20 year olds can handle.
I was talking to one bailiff who had been a trooper. He told me a story of taking a belligerent drunk to the Magistrate about 20 years ago. Said he fought him on the side of the road, in the sally port and in the jail. Got him calmed down enough to go into the Magistrates office which was just a room and a desk. The Magistrate demand him take the cuffs off the guy and he told her not a good idea. He said about the time he took that first cuff off it was on again. Flipped the Magistrates desk on her was fighting with the trooper and the trooper ended wrapped around him like a spider. He said the guy had him on his back with him on the ground. He grabbed his mace, explained it as old school mace. Said he shoved it in his nose and let it rip. He said that stuff was coming out his ear and he stopped fighting. There's nothing like hands on experience.
