He took it out for the first time this past Saturday. I don't think you can hear the distinctive "ka-ching" noise of the clip getting ejected when empty. I don't think the phone microphone could pick it up. It's a 1942 Springfield with a new stock and barrel. The receiver is original.

He sent in an application through the Civilian Marksmanship Program after qualifying at a local range. A month or so later his sweet new rifle arrived.

He spring for the expert grades they have now?

I think so. It was expensive. I let him use a bit of his savings to get it as a reward for his aviation progress.

I’ll ask him when he gets home in a bit. He’s at the gym with his girlfriend.

Sick.

I can't wait to get my kids out. My daughter is probably ready, I just don't have anywhere to shoot outdoors here. They don't let kids under 12 at my indoor range.

I’m sure it’s awesome! Shortly before I got mine the CMP were asking people if they wanted to upgrade to the expert grade as it’s all they had in stock. Beautiful rifles, and happy for him!

Yep. I just asked him. It was the expert grade rifle. Service grade with the new stock and barrel.

b-b-b-but... that doesn't even meet the definition of assault weapon!
how can it shoot like that?

also... i finally picked up a little tiny bit of m2 black tip en bloc. not really even a start, but i had to start somewhere.

I’m unfamiliar with these rifles. Does the mag pop out on empty or did he release it that fast?
One of the very few situations where “clip” is actually the correct word instead of mag/magazine. Usually makes a very distinct ping sound when it launches, but I didn’t hear it in that video.

Here’s an example:

Yeah. In the video, the cell phone mic on his Apple iPhone filters out certain noises. That’s why you can’t hear that distinctive sound.

Our troops during WWII used that sound to their advantage during firefights to trick the enemy into thinking they were out of ammunition or needed to reload.

My son has a Sheriff’s deputy friend down in Texas that just sent him several more clips for his Garand. They just arrived yesterday.

I got a bunch of clips at Tanks Rifle Shop that seem to work fine. Some of the other clips I have had did not fit into the rifle very easily. The ones I got back in the 1960's when I bought my first Garand work better than any others. Enjoy the rifle.

I gotta shoot one of those. 10 lbs is a heavy rifle.

It is. And it’s pretty welcomed when popping off 30-06. It’s one of the most pleasant rifles I’ve ever shot. And tossing a foot long + blade on the end makes it a very formidable weapon.
