Shotgun sling swivel issue

Hi all, I got Uncle Mike's Quick Detachable Super Swivels (#15312) specifically for Mossberg shotguns that have barrel lugs tapped to receive a swivel base. The instructions say "Put a drop of Gun-Tite on swivel base threads and screw into hole. Tighten until holes in base are at right angles to barrel and seated securely.

Well, when I tighten my screw-in swivel base, the holes do not end up at right angles to the barrel (see picture). Even trying to overtighten with a wrench and pliers I can't get it to go farther so the holes are pointing left and right. Any suggestions? Is it okay to under-tighten to where the holes are correctly aligned since it has the Gun-Tite?

Something like this to act as a crush washer + a dab of locktite should do it:

I would not count on locktite alone with the screw not fully seated. If you can find a metal shim of the correct thickness, that would be better than nylon.


ETA: can you re-seat the endcap and make it clock differently?

Remove the threaded part from the hole and file the bottom flat a small amount. Reinstall and see if it is closer. Do this till it lines up the way you want. Problem solved.
