Is this normal wear? I have been carrying this gun everyday for the past 6 months, in a hybred style holster, Precision Holsters ultra carry model. I really can't believe it's wearing like this. What kind of refinish coating finish would work best for this?

I’m going with not normal. My son’s P365 is around 5 years old and has been carried a lot. Does not look anything like your’s. I haven’t had my XL that long so I can’t do any comparisons.

I carry mine in a DeSantis leather IWB every day, which theoretically should wear a gun faster than Kydex. And it looks nothing like yours. But honestly, it's a carry gun. Find you a good cerakote guy from the forum or local and have em paint it whatever tickles your fancy

Do you take it out of the holster at night? A light touch of oil once a week and my gun still looks new after appx 4 months of daily carry in a watchdog tactical kydex.20221103_211256.jpg

For comparison sake, I’ve never touched the exterior of mine with oil and it rarely is out of a holster aside from practicing presentation and shooting. With as much as I beat it up and practiced with it, I’ve been extremely happy with how it’s held up.

Maybe your body chemistry leads to corrosive sweat? I know there’s been a few in the past here that seem to have issues with rust more than others.

This is not normal I have carried mine for a few years almost daily and it still looks good. You can tell it is not new but it looks nothing like this maybe an 8 out of a 10. I wipe/oil mine ever 3-4 weeks. That gun has not seen oil since you got it, something is up with that leather, or your body chemistry. Once you refinish this I would go with a holster that has a sweat barrier to be safe. You may look at the replacement sig slides too. They have a version in stainless that does not have a coating on it. You may be best going this route if you get rust on that you can fix it yourself. I would still replace the holster even going this route.

I doubt that is the holster. They are using veg tan. Grain side to the gun so it's smooth. Is it corroded or just worn finish?

FWIW, the finish on my P238 Scorpion is not very good. But it took longer than 6 months to wear off. But I have no finish on parts of that gun that only contact my shirts.

It's not corroded, it's just worn finish. I do the basic field strip, wipe down and oil on Sunday nights. This is the only gun that has worn like that. I started carrying a gun back in 96.

That looks like a toxic sweat + leather issue. Horsehide would likely prevent this issue...or just all kydex.

Contact SIG and see what they say if you're concerned. Otherwise, oh wells. It ain't a collector piece. If it's not all rusted I wouldn't worry about it.

My first question has the leather at some point come into contact with salt water somehow. I mean, no, that is not normal wear from carrying only for 6 months.

My second question is, when you were fighting Ripley on LV426 did you get to eat anyone? Or were you just a drone?

Five months daily carry in Don Hume leather holster, same holster I’ve used for years with my full size carry’s. Hard to photograph but the finish is starting to wear along the high edges. My other guns show zero signs of wear and I suspect that the Sig finish is not as robust. Op’s wear seems extreme.

Sweat, maybe.
Leather, unlikely.
What the leather was finished with, possibly.

It's two layers of veg tan glued together on their holsters. If you are sweating THROUGH that you have bigger issues.

I never underestimate the crappy nature of gun finishes either.

To the horsehide, it might be slightly more water resistant but it's not water proof. You have to wet horsehide to mold it just like veg tanned. Any leather will eventually take on water. Some of them just take longer than others.

Funny...Over the summer, the holster would get lots of my sweat on it. I have carried a but of guns in leather and kydex over the years, none of them had this level of wear.

Definately Not Normal...
As stated above, check your holster.

Send back to Sig & hope for the best outcome

-or-

Buy a Sig SS Slide or have your slide coated. It will be a great "upgrade" to your P365.
Cerakote is pretty good and fairly robust. Also, DLC is a top notch choice for a slide.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but did you ever figure out what caused the extra wear on your Sig?

It's interesting it happened on the leather side... I thought kydex would cause more wear.
