SIG Wins Modular Handgun System

I like the SIG as much as the next guy; maybe more so. But I tire of the redundancy and waste in the DoD, and just cannot fathom why they cannot come out with ONE handgun for everyone.

NSW dumped SIG and went to Glock because of the SOCOM contract. I call that "a clue."

I don't really care what they picked, Sig, Glock, Beretta, Smith, the problem that folks had with the M9 is STILL going to exist. Most army soldiers newly minted can not shoot and don't have much if any back ground in shooting handguns. So, there is s large learning curve to making a pistol shoot accurately and a lot of that rests with the shooter. Now, having newly made guns with non worn out parts will help some but the ultimate issues will still revolve around actually teaching each operator how to shoot their issues weapons. That being said, I have never owned any Sigs and this really won't change that at least yet for me. I think they do make a great product I just personally don't like them.

Of all the guns listed isn't the Sig the only one that's Modular?

No, Ruger submitted their American Pistol and it's completely modular. I don't even know if they were even considered.

From a sig LOVER, but someone copletely unfamiliar with this modular thingey, I am looking forward to picking up one of these when the production drives down the price a little.

There's Sig p320 is right now a very reasonably priced gun. It's already cheaper than a Glock.
I think it's a great gun...just don't like that beavertail at the back.

Sounds like a no bid contract in a sense

I'm not sure what I feel about this.

However, I can say without a doubt that I despised the M9

That's about where I'm at too. I don't care for the p320 at all, but anything is better than a M9.

So how many pistols with spare parts and magazines does $580 million get?

about 42 pistols and 17 spare mags by my estimation of government waste...

I bought a 320 Compact for my wife a few months back. I like it. It has the medium grip and fits her hand as well as mine. It's her first gun and she loves it. Shoots well. I took the "gun" part out of the grip and it's very easy. That probably isn't a good thing for the low ASVAB folk.:D

MARSOC, or Raiders, as they are called now, are the USMC's special operations force. So that article is kinda irrelevant, since special operations forces of all the services are not limited to the standard issue sidearm of their service.

True but you see what they chose. :D

Sig was a shoe-in with how that contract was worded. While the 320 isn't bad; give it a few years and everyone will be talking about how awesome the M9 was compared to it

No one has said anthying about the ability to mount a reflex style red dot sight on it...This may be the biggest news in the future.
