If I remember correctly, I believe a fellow told me his Glock's grip was not stippled, but was coated with silicon carbide, instead. I may not have the chemical compound correct, but I know it was silicon something.

It looked like stippling to begin with, but after looking at it closer, it had a blueish-green hue to it and did seemed to be added versus modified.

I may be late to the party, but is this a thing? Is anyone else familiar with a coating like this used to enhance grips?

I met a guy once in a three gun tournament to it done something similar on his shotgun his AR-15 grip and his pistol he said it was used in the scuba industry some type of dip that they put it in where it's kind of rough and textured but it was not an actual modification melted into the frame but it was bonded very strongly and it held up to the rough abuse 3 gun shooters put their guns through and it was really nice to hold onto not too rough not too smooth definitely a nice add. I don't remember his name or his contact info.
