So, if I go into one of the gun stores y’all have recommended to purchase a suppressor, will they generally help with all the paperwork? Or how does that work? Do any shops have a “we will guide you through the process” service?

Some shops are better and more knowledgeable than others. Scott at THSF gets rave reviews.

I did a lot of reading and asked a lot of questions with @BigWaylon guiding me through the process.

First question you need to answer is Individual vs Trust. Educate yourself on the pluses and minuses of each.

If using a Trust, you’ll need to get that in place before going to a shop.

Once you have that decision made, the rest of the process is essentially the same. Buy your suppressor and stamp from the shop of your choice. Shop submits the Form 4 paperwork to transfer the can to you (or to your Trust).

Long story short, I was with the kids Saturday and they shot a friends suppressed .22 pistol and had an absolute blast. So ultimately I would like to invest in a .22 suppressor and a 9mm suppressor. I assume, if adapters are available, a 9mm would work on a .22, just would’t suppress as well.

A 9mm can on a .22 could be adapted but as you said it would not be as effective as well as get muuuuuch dirtier with the .22 then it would typically running 9mm. You also have the extra weight of a 9mm can vs the .22 can that would be unnecessary depending on what you are putting it on.

I’ll say this. While I own a few pistol caliber silencers, shooting suppressed handguns isn’t all that much fun…other than 22s.

Now, shooting a suppressed PCC is a whole different ballgame.

I think you’re in a reasonable driving distance of PHA? If so, we could meet up one day with all kinds of suppressed 22 hosts. Might give you an idea of what you like and what they like. I could bring some 9/40/45 stuff as well for all to try.

But short answer is any dealer worth a dang ought to be able to walk you through it. With eForms, most of the work is on their end anyway…but you will need to have an account created as well.

Gary at the gun shop off of national highway in Thomasville has the silencer-shop kiosk and will practically hold your hand the entire way. Have bought several suppressors from him, and am always very happy with the quality of support and service.

Great shop, I have purchased 3 suppressors and lots of guns from Gary. He is my go to shop.

Thanks for all the input fellas! Probably the best “rifle caliber” host I have other than ARs would be a .300 blackout pistol. But I have a 9mm CZ already threaded and ready, and to my knowledge my 22/45 should be ready to go as well.

9mm and sub 300 blackouts, can sometime use the same suppressor. I have a rugged obsidian 9, that does that.

Don’t discount suppressing a 5.56 host. Especially if you have a shorter barrel rifle/pistol. Makes it way more pleasant.

Would you say a blowback PCC is significantly more awesome than a handgun when suppressed, or are you talking delayed blowback?

My three AR based PCCs (two in 9mm, one in .45) are way more enjoyable than a suppressed pistol.

When I got started on mine I knew absolutely nothing except the bits and pieces I'd read on the forum.
A couple of local places advertised they did the paperwork for you or the so called painless process so after going to one i
found out they would help me set up my trust and help me and basically do all the paperwork but their fee was an additional
100.00.
The second took a little more work on my part where I sat at their computer an typed in the information and then they reviewed it to make sure it was correct.
But no fee
The suppressior was around 25.00 higher at the second store but obviously the one I chose.

Do I need a lawyer for a trust/entity? How do I get the process started?
That’s one option. There are also lots of online options. I’m currently using a trust from The Trust Shop and it’s very straightforward.

My 22/45 suppressed is an absolute hoot. So much that I want a 22/45 tactical just so I can run a light

Making any progress? Don’t get caught up in the paralysis by analysis stage that gets so many people. 😁

Not yet, no. This week turned into a right mess. My attention on a suppressor was diverted to trying to get a model 12 to a gunsmith. And until I know how much this “gift” is going to cost me…

FWIW, I remain a fan of trusts. In your situation I’d get a trust done by the guys @BigWaylon recommends and I’d be the only responsible person on it. I’d do a new trust for each NFA item because the cost is low and it gives you the most flexibility in the future.

22 suppressors are awesome.
I also have a suppressor that I move around for 38spcl, 9mm, and 300blk. It’s awesome on carbines, but pretty big and heavy in front of a sig p226 or cz 75b. There are smaller cans these days, mine is a Liberty Infiniti.

I'm assuming it's the same as the single shot SS offers. He could add his kids years down the line when he feels they are responsible to handle a rifle and suppressor on their own and he won't have to go back through the atf?

That’s the intent, but I don’t know if the trusts from different places are functionally equivalent. I wouldn’t mind reviewing several, but it seems taboo to ask to read someone else's trust docs even though we pretty much know what they say.
