Whats with the note at the bottom of my screen?

@amnesia

Here is the note at the bottom of my screen:

CarolinaFirearmsForum would like your permission to enable push notifications.

It's just part of Xenforo, the forum software, not an evil plot by any means.

A "Push Notification" means you would get a pop up or an alert for things like PMs, mentions, etc. (apart from the little icon at the top right). And you'd get that alert even if you weren't 'on' the forum.

It's easy enough to say "no", that's what I did.

Evil enough. Not wanting anything pushed on me.

Then click "no". The cool thing about Push Notifications (vs. spam texts and phone calls) is that the standard is for publishers to require "Opt IN" rather than for them to be turned on vs. automatically subscribing people and forcing them to "opt out".

@Tim thanks for the explanation. Sorry I should have warned folks but was pretty excited to get it working just to be let down since a progressive web app stinks on Apple products.

However, @JT likes it!!!
It was supposed to be a way to get the Tapatalk app folks moved over honestly since Tapatalk has some privacy concerns for those that use it.

So do you click on "enable push notifications " and then click no or just don't click in the first place?
There should be an option to click the X pop up.

I click no several times and the last one had do not ask again. 🙂

How about instruction to turn it off after we opt in. Then maybe turn it on after we opt out. Sometimes I have time for forum stuff and sometimes I don't.

I decided to try it. We'll see just how annoying it is listening to the tablet chime all day.

On my phone, I enabled push notifications from the phone settings for tapatalk in the apps. All I get which is useful is a little icon that is at the top of the screen that let's me know if there is a response to a thread I have subscribed to. I can scroll it down to see what it is without opening tapatalk. You can stop the push by going to phone settings for that app in the list.

Are you using a private browser window or blocking cookies? Quick way to tell is if you have to log in every time you open the forum.
