Anyone ever clear with one of these? Thinking about renting one for a day and going nuts. Just looking for advice/thoughts.

As an aside watched a guy on YouTube clearing with a Mahindra 4600 and an Everything Attachment. Pushed trees over a bit then ripped/tipped them from under the rootball. We need a bigger tractor… (time to save more pennies).

How big is the area you want to clear?
I would go with a compact track loader over a rubber tire skid steer.
Make sure it has a front door, or preferably a cab since it's yellow jacket season.

I have ran a 72" and 60" CID X-treme brush cutter on a Cat 259D. Also the 60" on a Takeuchi TL8. I preferred the 60" brush cutter since it was lighter on the front end and easier to maneuver eith both machines.
Just moving around and loading on trailers, the 72" brush cutter with a Cat 232B rubber tire skid steer can get it on its toes.
Anything more than 6" will require a chain saw and stumping.

I have also ran a 44" CID brush cutter on a Ditch Witch SK900 mini skid. Perfect size for a tighter wooded area. It will push over and cut 3" brush.

2ish acres. Depends how much I’d get done. Small pines to cut around and some dense bushes that drive me nuts. Also have 1ish acre that’s cleared, just needs cut (but could borrow a lawn tractor to cut that), and if I had time I’d open an additional 10’ lane for a 100 yard range.

Did mean Track loader, but guess it depends what’s available to rent. I think it’s tracked though. And the cab was appealing for that very reason. Don’t want to get into a stand on. Would like to get up under pines etc. which would be less fun.

Sounds like a standard flow track machine will handle your job. Be sure to walk the property good before hand. Lookout for rocks, fence posts, and especially barb wire. Wire will cut a seal and you will have a hefty repair bill at the rental company.

I know a couple guys with high flow machines and mulching heads, but those are 6 figures and owner / operators, not rental machines.

Thanks and good info. I’ve walked a bunch, not all, it’s not a mess, Was cut for timber 10 years ago, so even the stumps are fortunately pretty rotten. I’ve opened up most of a trail to the middle that needs cut, but I want to clean it up more.

Talked to a forestry mulched, his quote came in about 2x his original estimates, dunno why… but that’s fine too, not sure I’d want to deal with all the mulch. Just as well clear around the trees and cut them as I go. Dump is surprising cheap for yard material.

I’ve got a premiere brush cutter at work. It will cut 4” stuff. We’ve had it a year and it was finally ran by me for the first time. It absolutely wasted some brush and small trees that that I was contracted to clear.

Took way less time than I though and was a hoot to operate.
