That’s pretty much the one I use but the strap is a little different - yours may be better! Love the nasal pillows

I’ve been using the ResMed Swift FX for 10-12 years. Works great for me comfortable, seals good and easy to find replacement parts.

The older masks that have been around a long time, like the Swift FX, seem to be better made and last longer than the newer masks. There's always a lot of hype and marketing about the Latest and Greatest and they encourage frequent replacement. There's big money in CPAP supplies.

@Geezer so what’s the new hotness for machines, currently have a resmed S9. 90+ events per hour (with no cpap) prescription pressure is 14.5, but in experimenting over the first year or so I had it, I go down to under 1 event per night on 16, so that’s what I set it at.

Glad I found this thread! I woke up at 2 am last night unable to breath. That has happened a few times several years ago and I had to do an at-home sleep study which told the doc that I needed to do an in-office, overnight sleep study.
I haven't gone back since, mostly because it seemed to have gone away. Nope. Last night was the worst it has ever been, scared the crap out of my wife and littlest one. Even felt like I had stomach acid in the back of my throat. So I will be calling the doc tomorrow, if I make it through the night ;) and a CPAP will likely be in my very near future! :(

For the acid, in the interim of getting to a doctor try not to eat heavily later in evenings and if you do (or feel really full when going to bed) have some prilosec or generic omeprazole on hand to take. My personal prescription that works well for me for that issue. significant acid reflux really can do a number on blocking your breathing while asleep.

Thanks! I made sure not to eat after 9 tonight and literally just took some omeprazole the wife had lying around from her pregnancy days!

Putting 6" risers under the bed feet to raise up the head worked like magic vs reflux. Takes a few minutes to get used to, but Its cheap and non prescription... give it a try!

Just seeing this, I have been out of the game for 2 years and I'm sure that new equipment is probably out there. When I left, ResMed had the AirSense 10 and Philips/Respironics had the DreamStation.

Bumping an old post to see if anyone local here can use a working Resmed s9 Autoset machine and related supplies? I've actually got two of them (one for travel, one for home), but think the second one isn't quite working correctly - think they have about 14k hours on them. I probably also have an old S8 Elite to give away as well.

Upgraded to new devices and while I'm still using the same mask, everything else from the S9 doesn't fit the new device.

Charlotte area.

If someone wants to pay for shipping i could pack it up and send it, but would be a decent sized box with 2x laptop sized bags plus some for other parts

edit, I think I’ve got a taker for getting them shipped will update if some components are still available

For the good of the order …

This below - suspension of news sales - is separate from (subsequent to and following) the already underway recall initiated back in 2021.

Phillips Suspends Sales of CPAP, Ventilator Machines

Monday, 29 January 2024 02:58 PM EST

Following a recall of millions of its breathing machines that began in mid-2021, Phillips Respironics announced Monday that it would halt sales of all such machines within the United States.

The machines include continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices used by people with sleep apnea, as well as ventilators used by other patients.

The recall was first spurred in 2021 by reports of defective CPAP machines emitting bits of foam and potentially toxic gases back into users' airways.

At the time, Phillips initiated a recall of the devices in June 2021 and put a pause on sales of new sleep therapy machines to U.S. customers, Phillips spokesman Steve Klink told the New York Times.

After that, Phillips published data from follow-up testing that it said showed the devices were “not expected to result in appreciable harm to health in patients,” although further testing was ongoing.

However, the U.S.Food and Drug Administration questioned the validity of those claims, calling them "unpersuasive," the Times said.

Although the 2021 recall affected about 15 million devices manufactured since 2006, over 5 million more were thought to be still in use by 2021, the Times said.

Many thousands of U.S. patients and their families who used the breathing machines have sued Phillips, blaming the faulty devices for a wide range of ailments, including fatal lung cancers.

According to the Times, in September the company reached a $479 million settlement with patients meant only to cover the cost of repairing and replacing machines. Separate litigation over illnesses and related medical costs is still working its way through the courts.

Under the agreement reached Monday with the FDA, Phillips is obliged to meet a list of standards before it might resume sales in the United States. The company pledges to repair and services devices already in use, the Times added.

Phillips said sales of the devices in other countries would continue.

I got a replacement CPap about a year ago that is different than the first one which was replaced 1 month before the warrantee ran out because of a problem with the power supply.
So I got 3 for the price of one… the first one went almost 2 years and the second for maybe 5 before being replaced. .

now if I could get GM to do that for my tuck life would be great.. 😊
😊

this is my new improved will not kill me CPap…

Filters? What are filters? I’ll take a picture later… if I do it now my wife will do what the previous CPap didn’t succeed at.

I don’t know how air gets thru this..

It should have two separate filters that fit together and slide into the machine. The one you've shown is reusable and can be cleaned, but you seem to be missing the disposable filter, which is thin and has a lighter blue frame (if using OEM Philips). I boil some water and pour it through the reusable filter when I replace the disposable one every two weeks.

Amazon has them, but they should be available from wherever you get supplies.
