Smith and Wesson 4516-1 .45ACP ?

I've owned a couple. Same one twice even. They're "great guns" in that they're reliable, accurate and a joy to shoot. I found it too heavy to carry EDC. I'd think that would be especially true for 'summer' wear.

Before the triggered crowd comes along with "you can do it, it's not too heavy with the right belt and holster....", *I* found it too heavy relative to other options that are out there.

Great input. That is the kind of info I am looking for. I carry an allow BHP in the winter and currently use a Sphinx Sub-compact in the summer. I think both are lighter than this one.

I used to carry a 6906. Sweet gun. My only complaint was that the safety lever is reversed compared to most sa pistols.

I collect 3rd gen S&W pistols. Theyre great collector pieces but not carry guns, mostly because replacement parts are nonexistent and holster options are very slim. There are plenty of great TDA pistols on the market for carry (PX4, P30, P-07, 92 series) to warrant S&W 3rd gen guns. Plus their values are going straight up w time.

So what is a fair price for one that I won't carry. LOL No box manual etc... 2 Mags

Which ones have you collected, and why?

mostly 9mm models, 5906, 6906, 3913, 3914, 5943, etc. some of the 45 models especially 4506, and the 1006 of course. the little chief special CS9 and CS45’s. not sure if I have any in .40…I vaguely recall picking up an LE trade in 4006 or whatever that model # is.

i like pretty much all quality American metal frame pistols that are out of production. Never shoot them they’re just to hold onto someday my boys will enjoy. I regret selling my old Ruger P85, P95, P345 and all those fugly Ruger TDA guns that are also (shockingly) also taking on some collector value.

im a beretta whore so if I need to scratch the TDA itch its going to be with a 92 or a PX4, not a 5906. Just my mileage. But if I met someone carrying a 5906 I’d want to shake their hand.

The one i had some years back cost me $500 with box and 4 mags. With they way 3rd gens are going im guessing you would be lucky in the 550-650 range. More realistically higher than that unless you're buying from a friend or desperate seller. I love em but can't justify having one sitting around. Good luck, they are great guns.

.....I still kick myself for missing a 1006 for a very, very reasonable price. Like 550-600$, that was in a display case very near a stack of mags for it at 20 or so bucks a piece. Like 10.

Hesitated a little too long....
