Hey all,

Had to share this one. I’ve been looking for this gun for years and could never find it in store or would just miss it on the forums. Either way, this beauty has a new home for a very long time. 10 shots of fun!

Take care!

I still have the first handgun I ever shot. It is a k framed 6” 22.
Those things are fun to shoot.

Nice gun. One of my favorite offerings from S&W. Lighter springs may result in light strikes but it can definitely be setup for a very smooth and consistent DA pull.

You’ll love it. There’s never a time that’s not good for shooting some .22. I bring mine to the range every time I go, whether it’s just to warm up before shooting something else or to focus on fundamentals for a few hundred rounds. I put the rds on mine to try it out for a while and I haven’t found a reason to take it off. That’d be one of the last guns I’d ever let go. Excellent choice!

Do you happen to recall which Wolff hammer spring and which strain screw to get from Lowe's/Home Depot for the homebrew action job? I had it written down and can't locate it.

I use 8-32 socket set screws. 3/8" long. Adjust it so you get reliable ignition. Plus, the socket set screws' tip won't deform like the factory strain screws do. A little 222 or 290 Loctite will keep it from moving.
Try a 13 or 14 lb Wolff rebound spring too.

I Really like these guns...without taxing my old brain too much can any of you tell me if they ever had this 10 shot version available without the IL?

If only there were a book with this kinda information. 🤣

got a six inch thinking about selling some how i ended up with 2 of them lol
It’s one of the few 617’s that I don’t own, post it up!

Bought mine 6" 15+ years ago - never fired - sold - regret - bought used blued prelock M17 6 shot 6" - no more regrets.

Companion airweight 317 8 shot J frame for a slightly smaller package . . .

The 617-4's are prelock, and could be had with a 10 shot, stainless cylinder. Most, if not all, of the -2 10 shots had an aluminum cylinder. I'm not sure where the -3's fit in between.

The shop had a 317 too. First time use even saw one of those.

Ooooo, how I would love to find a pre-lock, 4" aluminum cylinder 617!!! Loving the looks of your (OPs) 617, well played Sir!

Just as an aside, most of the 617's have what most consider "tight" chambers.
The typical treatment is to chuck up some fine grit and go to town, followed by flitz.
My iron sight 617 (mojo custom) I had him ream the cylinders out.
A typical rimfire steel match was only half over and it was already hard to insert the rounds.

Same situation with the other 17's I own but they don't see the high round count so not such an issue.

The top revo in both pics below are 617/17.
Yes, S&W did make a 4" blued M17. (17-5)

ALL S&Ws .22s through here get the chambers recut with a match reamer....frustrating but must be done.
