Someone Is Getting A Replacement Vehicle

Happened to my brothers Jeep Grand Cherokee, guy put a torch on some bolts that were stuck.

No I haven’t.
Must have been welding straight to the floor pan. Have no clue as to why they would be doing that

When I was about 21 or 22 I was working under the hood of a car in a dealership shop when the whole world suddenly lit up - in a bay across from me a coworker had accidentally leaned on a fuel line doing something with the car running. Maybe checking timing - remember this before electronic igntion etc. The fuel hose apparently had a crack in it and so gas was spewing onto the distributor cap...resulting in an impressive inferno I must admit. I ran across the shop as the others dived for extinguishers. In one second of inspired thought, I reached in and turned the ignition switch off, killing the electric fuel pump. Fire died out pretty quickly but the hood was totally scorched and needed a repaint and some of us needed fresh undies.

Cannot do that kind of work for a living without some "war stories". Thankfully there were no cameras everywhere back then, and pretty much all of my customers of that time are likely gone. I can say that there were a few ladies that asked for us by name and tipped well ...:)

With all the plastic crap inside today’s vehicles it is a wonder it doesn’t happen more often. Even on older vehicles when using any type welder but especially oxyacetylene or mig you better watch out. Wet wraps and fire extinguishers are your friends!

I patched floor pans in Germany so cars would pass inspection. Heavy salt on roads. Always pulled the carpet and had the owner play fire watch.

Those people have some tough audits to go through.
