North Carolina State Salamander is the Marbled Salamander. That is the state salamander of South Carolina.
I've had nights like that.............about an hour after eating at Los Amigos. The Milamor is unique in the way it calls. It sticks its head in the ground, whistles through its butt, and you can hear it a mile or more.
Bumping this up with a "heard" component- heard this bird tonight for the second time. First time was last night, wife and I were corralling a rebellious chicken- close and loud.
Tonight, there were several of them- you can hear them faintly at the beginning of the video, a single bird more clearly at the end.
What is it? I'm thinking owl ...

Don’t forget to tip your waitress. 😁
We found a small five-lined skink caught in a spider web on the back porch this morning. I doubt the spider could have handled it, but it was pretty well worn out from its struggles to get out of the sticky web. I got it free, and it immediately ran up under the siding on the house. I hope it doesn't find its way inside, because I know my wife's attitude would quickly change from "oh, it's caught, help it" to something a bit less charitable.I was picking up some old cardboard targets a little salamander like thing scurried out into the tall grass. i would have like to get a better look.
also, yesterday, my wife said there was a geko in the pool. geko is her generic word for any kind of lizard. it was a juvenile 5lined skink. I honestly didn't know they could swim like alligators, but that's what he did when he saw me reaching. He was tired though. i scooped him up and put him on the part of the pool deck where i saw one that looked exactly like him was wandering around the other day.
Chupacabra?Another day, another weird find... pretty sure the dogs had something to do with this.
