Sometimes I write to express something the Lord has laid on my heart. Usually it stays in a notebook and doesn't get shared. Felt compelled to share this. Hopefully it speaks to someone.

How oft my heart from Thou dost roam
In search of idols low
May I restrain this foul desire
But only by Thy power

O God! A debt so great I owed
For my corrupted soul
And yet in mercy Thou forgavest
Because of Christ the Lamb

And now in earnest I desire
To serve Thy Holy Name
But with each day a wretched fire
Seeks lost ground to reclaim

I need Thy help, Lord, every day
To live as Thou has called
Help me to yield my heart and pray
God strengthen my resolve

Each day the war inside goes on
Between my flesh and Thee
But let me ever strive to know
Thy Blessed, Holy Name

One day in death I shall retire
From battle against myself
Until that day, though, lead me on
To serve Thee, Lord and Savior

Thank you!

Anyone who is honest with themselves, struggles with this every day. I know I do.
Very well said.

I hope you'll think about sharing the contents of that notebook, if this is anything akin to what you usually write.

Here are a couple more that I have written. The first was written for Easter Sunday.

The glorious though that on this morn'
Christ, my Savior, did arise
Awakes in me desire to praise
The One who reigns on High

He suffered not for His own sin
Instead my sin He bore
Himself the precious Lamb of God
In place of all the world

And when up from the grave He rose
Changing all of history
He proved Himself the Son of God
He conquered death for me

Now on this Resurrection Day
His body, the Church, His bride
We praise the Father's only Son
Who intercedes on High

This one is a little more recent:

O the depth of Thy knowledge
I cannot understand
How all of life's problems
Fit into Thy great plan
And yet in my frail heart
I know without any doubt
Thy wisdom and greatness
None could ever live without

O the power of Thy hand
To deliver and to save
Out of Thy love and mercy
From Death, Hell, and the Grave
And to think that Thou doest
All of this and much more
Not because of my righteousness
But that of Jesus my Lord

O the Glory of Thy Self
May we never forget
That our lives should ever praise Thee
For we owe Thee this debt
Laying all on the altar
Our daily sacrifice
To the Father, the Spirit,
And the Lord Jesus Christ
