Hello all. Southern Defensive Pistol League is back in full swing again this year. We are holding matches at both the Duncan Gun Shop outdoor range in Wilkesboro and the Watauga Gun Club up in Boone. Wilks on the first Saturday of the month and Boone on the second Saturday. Start times are at 10am, registration is day of the match opening around 9am. Go look up southerndefensivepistolleague.com for information, rules book, and directions to the ranges.

We are planning on holding two 2-Gun matches at each range this year as well. The matches will be setup so that pistol only shooters will be able to compete so come out to have fun with us. There is a rules addendum for 2-Gun shooters in relation to start positions for rifle and such.

Saturday April 6th is our 2nd match of the year at Wilks, bring a friend and they shoot for free that day.
Saturday April 13th will be the opening match of the year up in Boone.

Come out and shoot with us in a Safe, Fun and Friendly environment......

Cost is $20 per person, $5 of that is a range use fee mandated by Duncans. We offer a $25 range use card that will cover you for the entire 9 matches. Think about that if you know you are going to shoot with us often.

Southern Defensive Pistol League 2-Gun Match Rules Addendum

These rules are in effect in addition to the regular SDPL rules for shooters participating in our 2-Gun matches…

1. You can shoot the match as pistol only, come have fun with us.

2. If you are shooting two guns, rifle and pistol, your division is determined by your rifle. Iron or Optic, any type of optic will put you in Optic. These include tube sights, red dot/reflex sight, green/red laser designators….

3. PCC guns are considered a Rifle so bring your pistol as well.

4. Start condition for all rifles will be loaded to 10 rounds in the first mag, all other mags will be loaded to capacity. 30 rounds max capacity.

5. Start position for rifle will be either low ready or low compressed ready.

6. Rifles will require a sling, you have to retain it for the entire stage.

7. If you have to transition from rifle to pistol, rifle must be on safe when slung… Rifle off the eye line should be on safe....

8. Rifles will have a camber flag for use between stages.

9. You will be transitioning from one gun to another and be required to holster a hot handgun or sling a hot rifle. Take your time, BE SAFE.....

10. Round count unknown. Bring 150+ of pistol and rifle ammo. 200 for pistol only. You will not need that much but have a safety cushion…

Folks, we had a beautiful day to shoot at the Wilks range this past Saturday. Come out and join us at the Watauga Gun Club this Saturday for more of the same. Weather is looking to be nice with sun and highs in the mid 60s in the beautiful North Carolina mountains. The address to the gun club is: 232 Appaloosa Trail, Boone, NC 28607. That will get you there using any maps program.

OK so the weather forecast was a bit poor with high winds but mostly sunny day for the WGC, Boone, match... We had a challenging setup day on Friday but put up 5 stages for 109 shots to complete the match. 19 shooters came out for a day in the sun and wind to have a some fun. Thanks to Steve for helping on both days with setup, running a squad and taking everything down. You never know what weather conditions may be when you may have to defend yourself..... We shoot in the rain, snow, sunny days and everything else unless it's going to be a safety issue at the range.... I try to get an email blast and a note on the web sites if we are going to cancel a match at least by Wednesday before the event.

Hey all, just a heads up. Mecklenburg Defensive Shooters will be holding their April Action Pistol Match on Saturday the 27th. You must register on PractiScore and pay the day of the match. I have looked at the stages and they are going to fun to shoot. Remember that Mecklenburg has one rule that most other clubs don't have, NO POINTING THE GUN UP..... This will get you a match DQ.. They are right under the approach pattern for Charlotte Airport.....
