So, I had a question I believed nobody better than the Sheriff could answer. At 6:40 this morning I sent him an email (after trolling around I was able to find his direct address) asking for a meeting. At 10:14 he responded asking for my phone number. I didn’t see his response right away and answered at 10:40. Three minutes later he called.

We had a delightful conversation, he pointed me in the right direction and thanked me for being an armed citizen of the county (“Those of you who are legally armed help us do our jobs”).

I’d never before tried to get a public servant on the phone other than the mayor of High Point a long time ago. It wasn’t hard to reach her because my company was getting ready to invest around $25 million in her town.

Richie Simmons, Sheriff of Davidson County, is the guy who personally phones each new CHP holder to congratulate and thank them. We’re lucky to have him.

What was the question? Oh and he is a good guy. I’ve met him several times.

An old work phone once “butt dialed” 911 and I didn’t know it. The Randolph county sheriff himself called me back.

Except it takes forever to get your CHL in his county...

BAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

A while back when GRNC was pushing the PPP repeal and the NC Sheriff’s Assn was fighting it, I called and left a message for my sheriff to call me. And he did about an hour later. “This is Donnie Harrison. What can I do for you?” I wasn’t a campaign donor and just a nobody constituent in a county of over a million people but he had the time to call and listen to what I had to say. Yea, I know, he didn’t sign off on NFA, please don’t hijack this thread for that. My point is, he was accessible and he listened. He was a great sheriff (and will be again in 2022).

Never met him, but he did call me to let me know my renewal was ready for pick up. I told him I appreciated him backing Davidson in being a 2A Sanctuary county and hoped he would stand his ground if push came to shove. I like him, so far.

So? Did you get the DWI expunged?

You know the question was about people laughing at his rainbow sash. 🌈🤫
And you’d better be careful when you enter Davidson County!!!! 🤪

He was a great sheriff (and will be again in 2022).

I only met the man ( Harrison) a couple of times at fund-raisers, given the shenanigans we've seen in past few years I hope he's really gonna be back on the ballot in 2022...

He only called you back because you are friends with @MacEntyre

All kidding aside, I’m about as “pro Leo” as they come, but I’ll also drag an entire department across red hot coals if they are assholes and abuse their power, but that’s another thread.

It is positively refreshing to read that an elected official feels comfortable enough to reach out to the “little people” when they request an audience, it gives me hope that when the “SHTF” we won’t be fighting the good fight alone, yes I understand that LEO in general will be pointless, the legitimacy of the office will be questioned by some, but at that point, the opinions of sheep probably won’t matter to anyone.
