Until today, I had never been there, just heard it was an OKAY place, they sell guns, have both an indoor range, and paintball course outside, and unknown to me, a gunsmith.
The latter is what was most important to today's trip.
You see, in the last two/three years I've gotten my older sister into shooting. Mainly handguns, but it's a start. She's even joined a shooting group comprised of only women, the majority are domestic violence survivors. But I digress.....
I sent her to her earlier shoots with my M&P M2.0 Compact that has an Apex trigger, and Ameriglo night sights.
To say I spoiled her is understating it.
She's also picked up the base model of my M2.0, the same Apex as mine, and the same sights. But, they needed put together.
Today we did some scouting around the Jacksonville area and wound up at Sportsmans Lodge on 17.
The staff was helpful, even though they were very busy, and their gunsmith was eager to help.
Now, both of us figured that turn around time would be a week at best, and ten days, to two weeks would be the norm considering other gun shops that provide gunsmith services. But when presented with the pistol, sights, and trigger, the smith said " how's an hour sound?". My jaw nearly broke the display case....... After that, I offered to give them five rounds out of one of my spare magazines to test fire the thing after it was reassembled, and they wouldn't take them. The smith said they had ammo to test fire it.
Nearly spot on to an hour later the phone rang and they told us it was ready for pickup.
When we got there, the new parts were installed, old parts bagged up, and they test fired it, free of charge.
Total money spent was less than 90 dollars.
Tomorrow Sis will shoot it with her group of lady shooters.
I have to say that The Lodge made a truly great first impression with both of us. It made my short list of places to stop when I'm roaming J-Ville, if for nothing more than looking.
Quick turnaround, and great customer service, they won't disappoint.....
