First batch with pins - bit unprepared for separating everything.

best $20 I spent lately; [I did use silicone caulk around the baseplate to keep water out.

How about using a plastic bag over the end.
 
The caulk works both ways. If water does get in, it has no way to get out.

I have not seen where water leaking in has been a problem, as it seems to drain out just as easily.
 
I don’t use the magnet to separate the pins from the brass, just to pick them up and move them around as needed.
Exactly - plus a very handy tool for non-reloading use picking up dropped nails, screws, small parts etc
Sometimes my broomhandle sweeper magnet is too bulky and the release feature on this is pretty neat.
