Examples of "proactivity" officers are told to forgo include checking city parks at night for trespassing or suspicious activity and stopping a driver for running a red light.

"If we witness something not deemed a violent crime or in-progress crime, we are told to leave it alone," a second officer told WRAL.

This is happening all over and not just because of staffing shortages. I believe in Greensboro the police were told to stop pulling people for minor infractions such as tail light out and such. It was deemed racist due to most infractions of this type happened to be minority drivers.

Similar BS in Charlotte. Just what we need. THANKS liberal turd Cooper

Our city council apparently believes that the solution to police brutality is no police.

At work our alarm goes off alot due to wind and power outages. I used to have to go meet the police there and explain the situation. Last few times it happened nobody showed up and the last time they did show, the cop told me straight up that they weren't going to come but they were on their way to eat nearby so they swung through.

Your office is next to Krispy Kreme?

I had to go pick up my mom from being discharged at Duke hospital today. The gang riding their 4 wheelers cut me off by running the red light at my intersection. There were maybe 30 or so of them. Time for a ā€œtruck rifleā€ for my outings down that way.

They'd quit if they started getting flattened more regularly.

They are riding on the interstates and highway 70 from Bethesda to Guess Rd with no respect for the law. No head lights or nothing. Some body is going to die and the person that runs over them will be charged. That's the way The šŸ’©hole called Durham is run

Which ones have they actually stopped enforcing? I bet

You say 30 or so ā€¦ youā€™d better have the ā€œright weaponā€ forget the truck rifle ā€¦ you need this ā€¦

Sounds like it could be the start of a new sport if the police wonā€™t take care of it and theyā€™re being a menace. This is already a problem in NYC and Philly, and itā€™s been going on for so long that itā€™s now practically accepted.

Pull your tag (since that wonā€™t be enforced either obviously), DIY spike strips and similar disablement devices should put a nice dent in it.

i'd be less worried about the police than the mob once I ran over one of theirs that all but threw himself under my wheels.
i've come pretty close to taking one or two out, THROUGH NO FAULT OF MY OWN, on skibo

Durham has always been my favorite "football". I never get tired of kicking it. As a friend of mine is want to say, "I'd drive to Myrtle Beach and back to avoid going thru Durham." THey have a new mayor and chief of police and while they both talk BIG their faces look like the dog that caught the garbage truck. Now what do I do? The criminals there are already pretty emboldend to the point of just walking up or driving up and shooting somebody in broad daylight. The DA's office got bitch slapped for saying they wouldnt even prosecute a gun crime unless it was a "slam dunk case". I mean what's next? A friend was trying to talk me into going to see/hear Tommy Emmanuel. The tickets are like $150 each. I asked him if the venue would provide an armed escort to and from our parking place. No way.

Not enforcing laws will result in chaos, we see it now with smash grabs and raping women in NYC train stations and on PA trains.

I'd be far more concerned about Myrtle Beach than Durham....

Might be a good prediction there ā€¦ smash and grabs jump 150% ā€¦ but Durhamites blame lack of affordable housing or something like that.

the fact that people just livestream stuff and don't even bother to call police these days is appalling.
somebody should have domed those guys on the spot

"Murder Beach"?
I tend to think Myrtle is like Durham ā€¦ 99% of the crap goes down in a small area of either city not everywhere. Now I will say MBPD are bastards to out of state tagged vehicles ā€¦ they are trigger happy to light up for the least little violation they can get (I am guessing because they expect out of staters to pay it not fight it).

I thought that having a tail light out was a excuse for them to take a closer look at you!

I'm sure most of Durham's crime is reported and well known. Murder Beach's crime is hidden and kept quiet. Don't want to scare away those tourist dollars, do we? Whenever crime is reported, the leaders try to blame it all on the tourists. We all know that it's locals preying on the tourists. Just look at the bookings at J Reuben Long Detention Center and see where most of the detainees are from.

It is in Murder Beach...cruise down Ocean Blvd with crap hanging from your rear view mirror....expect to be pulled over and endure a thorough investigation.

Stop right there..
Come on Mr Billy ā€¦ I said ā€œMBPD are bastards to out of state tagged vehiclesā€. They seem eat tourist up for minor traffic violations on Bus 17 and Ocean Blvd from maybe 30th North down to 30th South. People & families come down and drop some decent dollars in MB at motels, restaurants, golf courses, shops, etc ā€¦ and some get nailed for a couple hundred bucks more for ā€œimpeding trafficā€ because they are going to slow on Bus 17 because they are looking for a certain avenue to turn left on ā€¦ or 39 mph in a 35 zone while other SC tagged vehicles are passing them at 45 mph plus. MBPD is making some serious revenue with the blue lights.

In the olden days that was true. Now we understand itā€™s cause you a racist cop trying to keep minorities down.

Remember...... Enforcing curfews on minors is racist....
