Just finished watching the first episode. Little bit of current politics in that they mentioned a second US civil war and showed some audit the vote protests in the storyline. But overall I liked it. The new sets look great and I like Anson Mount as Pike. Lots of easter eggs to the original series, ie T'Pring from Amok Time

Damn - you had me interested but it's on Paramount +. I don't need any more monthly subs.

We went ahead and pulled the trigger on it and bought a year subscription as it cheaper than month-month and I figured there was enough content to watch for a year. Currently, they are working on three new Star Trek Shows: Discovery, Picard, and now Strange New Worlds. My wife and I have also been slogging through Voyager, which we started on Netflix and they dropped while we were in season 3. Don't know if I would renew it or not. One thing that I dislike is the way they wait a week or more between episodes because the time lag makes it harder to follow the story and we end up waiting and then watching several in a row.

I'd love to see it, but every channel having their own subscription service is getting silly. Paying for everything is no different than having a cable package, and I'm not doing that.

Perhaps I should sail the high seas?

I agree on both accounts. We have Netflix, which we haven't been watching as much recently, as it seems a lot of the content has dried up and we have Paramount. There are a few other streaming services I use that are free and I just mute the ads, at which point I typically fall asleep.

Once you get past all the wokeness its a decent Star trekish show.
Agreed. We just, mostly turn a blind eye towards it, with an occasional complaint. The premise (mycelium spore drive) is fascinating and the fact that if you follow Star Trek cannon, it obviously doesn’t take off en mass, adds mystery. Also, in classic Trek fashion, they’re dealt with interesting issues.

Just watched the first episode, thought it was pretty decent. Great effects

lots of OG Star Trek names showing up in the crew beyond Pike including Spock, Uhura, Nurse Chapel, Kirk

oh and it took me a bit to recognize Pikes girlfriend at the beginning of the show, same actress plays mrs mcmurray on Letterkenny
