I’m cruising through middle-of-nowhere’s distant neighbor in eastern WY and start seeing manned HMMWV with mounted SAW (or M60?) at several intersections. Intersection in this case is crossroads separating approx 10,000,000 acre sections of empty prairie land.

I see 3 or 4 of these. Unmarked, but manned.

Then I pass through the thriving metropolis of La Grange, WY (pop 448) and start seeing choppers flying around. I’m not up on my IFF aviation skills, but they look like Huey to me.

THEN….I see a huge wall of dust and 3 F350s with “Federal Agent - Police” markings come flying up. 2 of them turn in front of me, the 3rd let’s me pass then gets in behind me.

And here I am in my POS Buick SUV rental and nothing but good intentions to protect myself.

Agents and I convoyed about 40 minutes into Nebraska before they broke one way and I the other.

Wonder what I stumbled into?

Open missile silo is my guess.

On a positive note, this Mexican joint I stopped at is freaking amazing.

I have no idea what I ordered as nobody in here speaks English (or doesn’t want to) and there isn’t a menu, but it’s pretty damn good.

They were filming a scene for a new X-Files movie. :D

I've driven through the areas with the missile fields. First time, I needed a fuel stop and had to get a haircut before visiting the client. I commented to the barber at the cool state of preservation of the "one room school houses" and he about fell over laughing. "Hell, them ain't schools, unless nukes are in session". So driving through the rest of the area, 1 room school house/church/farmhouse- check, no parking lot or driveway- check, not even a flag pole close- check-- bing bing, missile silo. Once you understand the pattern of living out there, a missile silo stands out like a sore thumb.

Was in and all around wheatland and shirleys basin area this time last year shooting pdogs and i never knew about the silos !! No military presence at all - heck not even many people at all especially Mexicans or blacks. That just blows my mind and i wonder if the barber was pulling your leg ?

I'd venture a guess at training. Armed forces version of a fire drill?

Had a USAF c-130 and a couple single-rotor choppers fly over me just above the ridgeline in Madison Co on Sunday. Unless they're landing troops at Shelton Laurel, I figure it must be as close terrain to China/N Korea as they can find to train.

It could have been the Minuteman missile facilities of the 319th Missile Squadron of the 90th Missile Wing based at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base just outside Cheyenne; you were motoring around their territory.

Motored right past their gate in fact.

I’d have been right around B9 when I saw the first HMMWV

Good news is, its only Airforce Security, the odds of bein hit when they shoot is low for the first 30 sec's of being shot at. But after that, the odds go up to to 50% for the duration of the firing. LOL

So what you are saying is that if you can't aim a shot, fire a lot works? lol

I like the mental image of Tim driving across the state, full of Mexican food, and he's a moving dot on some gubment agent's map.

"B-9, oh no you sunk it, are you peeking?"

My entire mission is to seek out one of these sights, pull the car up to the fence and take a piss. I just want to see if any secret squirrel commando types light me up.

So you whizzed on the electric fence didn't you?

Flashback to 1993….every morning after PT at CM “A” school in Gulfport, MS there were about 30 of that would cram into the squad room to watch Rem & Stimpy before class. Good times.

Sounds a lot like some of the YouTube videos you can see of a nuke being moved around. Like @JBoyette said.
