A man walked into the Long Shot Gun Shop in Yelm on Feb. 13, asked to see a gun, loaded it and then died by suicide in the store.
At approximately 1:21 p.m. on Feb. 13, officers from the Yelm Police Department were dispatched to the shop in reference to a gunshot victim, stated a news release. Officers were told by employees that a white man in his early 50s had committed suicide inside the store.
The investigation determined the man entered the store alone and requested to see a firearm that was for sale. As the man looked at the firearm, he loaded it with one round of ammunition that he brought with him, stated the release.
“The male then turned the weapon on himself and took his own life,” stated the release.
No customers or store employees were injured in the incident. There was also no connection found between the man and the business.

Happened a few times at both indoor ranges I used to frequent back in CA, only with rentals. One eventually changed the policy so that you could only rent a gun if you had someone else with you. Even having your own gun wasn't good enough to let you rent, which was odd. The other stopped rentals all together.

This happens more often that you would think. There have been several at Jim's in Fayetteville
We had chatted with the young woman that shot herself later that day. None of us had any idea that she was so desperate. I'm sure many of us wonder if we missed something.

You didn’t…you can’t know what someone’s mental state is…and once they have made their mind up that’s what they want to do …typically nothing will stop them.

I think my friend that tried to save her has more trauma now, poor kid.

I saw two gun shot suicides in 3 years. I was 16 delivering groceries. The wife can mm e to store and asked to have them delivered. I got there and as I walked in back door .Boom.gunsmoke came out of door in hallway. Husband shot his self under chin. What a mess for a 16 year old to see and hear. Two years later I saw a 35:year old woman that had shot herself in the temple .. Her mom had groceries delivered to her. She was suffering from depression.Never delivered any more groceries

Suicide seems like such a simple solution I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

But you have to read the fine print. You sh.. yourself. So you’re lying there and girls who never gave you the time of day are screaming “why” and you’re lying there with a load in your shorts.

HHH.

most suicidal people have way more experience hiding it than you have identifying it
I've met you. My guess is that you went over and above to be nice to her, and gave her pause to think that maybe not everybody out there sucks. unfortunately the short time you spent being nice to her was no match for whatever she's been going through for years that made her consider ending things in the first place.
don't doubt yourself in this
doubt your unneeded sympathy for gangbangers that shoot eachother on accident, but not in this :)

Oh lordy here we go again. I have no sympathy for gangbangers, at all. Please stop putting words in my mouth. Did you go read what I asked the 2 guys before everyone piled on? LOL.

But I do appreciate the rest of what you said.:)

I have been to far too many suicides. It’s the first two or three of them that stand out the most after that they all kind of become what they are. I won’t go into too many details but the first one was a guy that shot himself with a high powered rifle (270) it remains in my mind because it was the first one I ever went to at work or anywhere for that matter. Then a few weeks later a HS friend shot himself and it was one of those scenarios we all had no clue he was that depressed. He put on a good show in front of folks but was suffering mentally behind closed doors. Then a few weeks maybe even a month or so my Great Uncle shot himself. He had grown depressed over the loss of his second wife in the span of 12 years to cancer and the suffering they both had gone thru with him by their side before dying to cancer had devastated him. I sort of became numb to it at that point. I kind of accepted that it will happen and nothing I say nor do will change it.

Lost a good friend years ago. His wife was the primary bread winner, he had a part time self employed gig but was pretty much a Mr Mom. Wife left him and he couldn't handle it.
I knew what he was going through because I'd been through it. Called him the night before to see if he wanted to come stay with us for awhile just to get away from it all. He was sitting at
a car dealership when I called, buying a new truck to add to his landscaping business that had just picked up a few commercial contracts.
10am the next morning his dad called me to say that he'd killed himself.
When I was going through a bad divorce, wife of 12 years, and the sweetest thing, left with our 2 kids, and became the meanest person I have ever known. One night I sat in my garage workshop, attached to my now empty home, in more emotion pain than most can imagine. Put a pistol to my head....and to this day I can't tell you why I didn't pull the trigger, but I can say that I'm glad I didn't.

My thing is couldn't you at least buy the gun on credit and do it somewhere else? It's not like your paying the bill. I always thought if i ever was going to do something like that, I'd take out a loan and go give money away to those i cared about before going.... like a parting gift.

There was a pile on? And I missed it? Dangit.

Link for those who live under a rock, please....

its not always a death sentence, some suicides go wrong and they live, mutilated, suffering, vegetative
Yep, some pull the trigger and the gun doesn’t go off…light strike from a BG380. Guy called us (EMS) and asked to be transported for a psych evaluation and help with depression. Cop said he didn’t prolly do it. I looked at the gun, ejected the round and saw it had a small Knick but not enough to ignite the primer. Coincidentally I decided then and there my BG380 no longer was a gun I wanted to keep. I never had reliability issues with it but never wanted to test that probability in the event I needed it for self defense..

That is very sad and pretty unusual for a woman to use a firearm. Statistically they choose non disfiguring methods.

My sister in law's father in law went down in the basement while the whole family was in the house including his grand kids and shot himself in the head with an Iver Johnson breaktop .32 short revolver. Apparently the rounds were so degraded that he suffered a scalp wound but the bullet didn't penetrate his skull. He came back up from the basement with his head bleeding profusely and just sat down on the couch.

He got a psych incarceration and his firearms confiscated by my SiL. She offered me the breaktop and a Spanish .44-40 revolver but I declined them.

I used to live in San Diego. This was the policy at the indoor ranges, because of a couple suicides.

Were we both at the same place?

the police usually confiscate guns used in suicides or attempts

They did and were going to return them to her. She asked me if I wanted them and I declined so the department kept them and I imagine they were eventually destroyed.

Nope, I was in the incorrectly named NorCal.

Funny thing about norcal vs. socal, you can tell where someone is from based on how they talk about roads. northern people say "take I-5 south to XYZ" and southern people say "take the I-5 south to XYZ". Always sticking that "the" in there as if "I-5" isn't a proper name. It's "talk to Bob", not "talk to the Bob". Wierdos.

Have seen folks that have shot themselves and hung themselves. It sucks and I hated seeing it. Still see it every now and then, in my mind.

I know we joke on here sometimes about “what has been seen cannot be unseen”. Unfortunately, that’s the damned truth.

May not have passed a 4473, perhaps?

That's me: the Golden State freeway, the 14 north etc, and I didn't even grow up there.
