I get to hear EMS calls on the scanner at work, and sometimes there's a suicide call. Most are really tragic, but one was actually kinda funny in a dark way.
Fellow calls 911, reports that his daddy has killed himself. "Send the coroner, not an ambulance. He's too far gone" an exact quote from the son. 911 operator tries several times to get the son to go attempt aid, but he keeps refusing "he's too far gone, he's already dead" etc.
Ambulance shows up on scene, and the paramedic comes over the radio after they found the dad. "He's conscious and talking, said he got drunk after his dog died and tried to shoot himself". It ended up being a nasty grazing wound to the head, but not life threatening.
A few years ago, a coworker of mine committed suicide. Like so many here, none of us had any idea that he was troubled. Life seemed to be going well for him. He had a job he appeared to enjoy, he'd just bought a house, he was only a few months married, and had a baby on the way. By all accounts he had a great relationship with his parents and brothers too.
According to his wife, he came home from work one day, and broke down crying. She asked him if he wanted to talk about what was bothering him. He shook his head no. The wife sat with him a while, then went to go use the bathroom. While she was in the bathroom, she heard the gunshot. Totally out of the blue. Nobody suspected anything.
