Stopped by Arbys this evening because I had a craving for a roast beef sammich. Was notified by the employee at the drive-thru that, due to supply issues, they were out of roast beef.

Arbys...out of roast beef.

My daughter stopped by Starbucks on the way home. They had a sign on the menu that read, due to supply issues, some menu items would be unavailable for several weeks.

Not to add fear but the first time in 25 years of ordering truck loads of glass I have been informed it would take a week and a half to get my load delivered it’s usually 2-3 days.

They are saying there is a shortage of drivers.

Bojangles had a similar supply constraint sign posted tonight about their supreme tenders... they were completely out.

Another boat stuck in the Suez Canal? Or maybe this time Panama? 😆

In all seriousness I have a feeling that by Fall we’re going to be seeing a lot of economic pitfalls really open up … not just supply but prices surely won’t be getting better for sure.

Similar here with Arby's. But they have all the meat but no workers. Only open m-f.

Just look at all the folks on extended voluntary unemployment. The brainless one extended their payments, so they have no incentive to go to work. Local Wendy’s had cars lined up for 30 minutes, and it was past 7pm, not crunch time. Gal at the window said that their manager never showed up, will not answer his phone, and half her crew didn’t show up. Oh, and so sorry, but we are out of chili and Diet Coke. Somebody in power must be pounding one off daily, laughing at how easy this is. I was happy enough just carrying a 1911. Anymore, the sbr and a few mags ride shotgun. Call me paranoid, but it’s only going to get worse.

No supremes at Bojangles in Denver yesterday. Then they closed the indoor dining when I put my but the in a booth.

PVC pipe was all gone at my local supply in 3/4 and 1”.

R22 refrigerant which is now just recycled stuff by special order and like gold at my vendor.

White bread was out Monday at Food Lion. Manager said they cut a day out of delivery by vendor due to truck driver shortage.

Seems like every other restaurant has shut the dining room AND eliminated Sunday opening due to nobody will work.

Lack of repair parts for ice machines, mainly higher cost parts. I went to two restaurants in Gaffney,SC. One had zero ice due to parts. The other couldn’t do milkshakes for some reason.

Must be Bimbo. I can assure you Hickory is getting what they order from us. The final leg is 20 minutes to get it there from Newton. BUT, I can also tell you that the Hickory warehouse has cut their orders a good bit. So it might not be a supply issue. And we have not cut a day out of any of our deliveries. Although there is talk of changing out schedule.

To the truck drivers. We can't keep them around. And currently not many applications. And almost none of them want to actually unload trailers, which is about 1/3 of what our drivers need to do. Everybody wants to bump docks, then whine that those of us actually working are getting "paid too much".

My sister hasn't worked in a year and now has thousands in the bank.

Another friend was out of work this past hear but god a decent job over a month ago, told them she had it and North Carolina just sent her another check for $900

The tiny LSG where I do transfers is now open only two days per week. Can’t find anyone to work the other days.

I heard on T.V yesterday that there could be gas shortages in different areas. Not to a shortage of gas but no drivers to deliver it.

We saw that too. I was imagining a family driving down to Orlando for a nice vacation and not being able to find gas to get home. :(

At work, we've adopted a new attendance policy - 10 points before final written warning
to put that in perspective, a no call no show is a point... and it's good for 2 days before considered job abandonment. So if they don't come in today, or tomorrow, but then send a quick text that they also won't be in the day after tomorrow - it's all only 1 point. and points fall off after 6 months. You could literally pull that stunt almost twice a month and never really have it held against you (aside from lack of promotion or transfer, but even that is only effective when somebody on final written.. so just wait a month...)
Oh, and attendance points are now a separate category from all other performance disciplinary actions, so you can't factor the callouts into the fact that they just have a bad attitude.

at my wife's job out of state, they had 22 interviews scheduled for one day. none of them showed up. apparently unemployment demands you show proof you've applied to places and asks you to provide proof that you had interviews scheduled... but has no way to follow up on if you went to the interview or got offered the position...

awesome. Grandma up in MI is not doing well and a trip may need to be scheduled real soon... flying out of FAY to DTW usually requires 1-2 stops and 8 hrs of travel plus "arrive early" and "get your luggage" time, it's probably just faster and easier and cheaper for 2 people to drive the 11 hours.
assuming there is fuel
I will say one thing about the obama gas cans... they do hold in fumes MUCH better and make it easier to drive with them in the trunk

Conclusion…

They‘ve completely destroyed the concept of “work ethic”. The idea that one would work conscientiously and eventually be able to retire is just history. Now, it’s about “How can I do nothing and have an easy life?“. When there’s nobody working anymore, only billionaires paying taxes (assuming they’re not smart enough to find ways to avoid them), who is gonna pay for the “free everything, forever”?

Was at a service call this week and the renter took a job at Home Depot. He said Home Depot paid him $15 an hour to start. For no experience retail that’s good.

Stupid restaurant near me is still looking for people for the kitchen but will not start over $9hr. Waitresses are now doing morning cooking/prep.

The labor shortage is due to government checks is unreal here. I never saw a help wanted for a week in Florida. If they are having the same issues they don’t have signs out nor issues with service.

My 40 year old younger brother....
Currently unemployed - again
Has lived in my parents basement for the last 15 years
Has a weed dependency he claims is for anxiety
Has a BS 4 year degree (paid for by my parents)
When he works, he can only muster the effort to find a part time job waiting tables at night to fit his busy schedule

He currently refuses to put forth any effort in finding a job because with the extra 'rona money tied into unemployment he gets about 3 times what he makes when working waiting tables. One of my younger sisters (48) lives with the parents too, but she works a crap job. I doubt she'll ever move out until she latches onto another man.

I’ve run into that at two locations around here in the last week. The first time I opted for homestyle tenders instead. Had never tried them before...they were edible.

Second time, I chose to hit the CFA next door instead. 😎

We have been hiring at the countertop shop I work in. Help wanted sign out for 2 weeks now, called a few people from our last round. Somehow no one wants to work a manual labor job, in the summer, in a warehouse with no A/C for $10 an hour, no benefits for first 6 months. To top it off there are two Sheetz within a mile or two that hiring $15 an hour right now. Not to mention all the ways you can serve under Bezos and set your own schedule.

I can't blame the people I know that were forced to take unemployment last year now making more sitting at home. I've been loosely looking online for a new job for the past year once I wasn't allowed to work from home. I can see how there is a labor shortage, most employers want someone with a very specific skill set, or the bottom dollar person. I am in the triangle area and the development and job market are just about turned on its head. Its equal parts excited and scary.

My windshield guy was here yesterday. While he replaced to glass in my Jeep he had 2 calls from dealers....No Glass....He told one of the dealers that he bought from 4 different places and all were out.

NOW, I asked why lumber was so damn high and didn't get a good answer.
Windshield man and I both noticed yesterday the biggest mill in Horry is STACKED with product. One mill has Stopped taking logs...The lots have !0s of Thousands of logs to be cut. They also have Millions of board feet standing in the yard. Lowe's and Home Depot are Full of lumber...so there is NO shortage. When Toilet Paper was high there was NO toilet paper. There is a great abundance of lumber and the prices go up daily.

I'm calling Bull Shit on the lumber deal. Hell we all should cash in our 401Ks 90 days ago and bought lumber and plywood and resold this week!!!

Our Lowe's and HD are chock full of wood too. Was at Lowe's last weekend getting loaded up on stuff, and every wood isle was packed.

A CDL is another marketable skill in the toolbox. I could have switched jobs to a dozen different companies in the last year or so. But it can be an odd market. UPS, Fed Ex, XPO, and PFG got hammered early on in the shut down. Us, MDI, and some others could barely keep up with the demand. All based on what product you are hauling.

Add to that an aging driver population and increased medical requirements forcing people out. And younger drivers not coming in. The demand is going back up as the market goes up.

One of our issues is that we do long term contracts and it's harder to negotiate pay in off years. So everyone else is paying more, but us. And some of the stuff they are doing isn't helping. A sign on bonus is no good if they can't afford to be here 3-6 months. For us guys with seniority, it's a good gig. I can't afford the cut in pay to even the higher starting pays and I don't want to loos 4 weeks of vacation with another coming in a couple years. But folks want it now and don't want to pay their dues like we have.
