Going to pull the trigger soon, literally, on a suppressor. I understand the process and paperwork involved. Already own several rifles and pistols, have a CCP, etc.

My question is, does purchasing a suppressor bump one to the top of an "ATF watchlist"? With everything going on I'm a little leary.

I think the worst possible outcome of owning NFA items is that if these items are ever banned, there's a convenient list of doors to knock on. That's always a future possibility that you have to take into account.

Personally I doubt the alphabet crew has enough manpower or competence to "watch" anyone just because they have a registered NFA item. But in reality, nobody knows for sure. Think of it this way, by purchasing NFA items you're helping to normalize them and reduce the possibility of random gun owners being harassed because of it.

Beyond that, you have a concealed carry permit and probably one or more 4473s. Whatever secret list exists, you're on it already.

I stopped worrying about being on lists a while ago.

Last year I bought 3 cans at once. Keep buying guns and and about to buy another can or two. Online ammo purchases. A member on here. Etc.

Don’t worry about lists and live life.

I feel like in reality it should do the opposite. People who legally purchase NFA items aren’t likely to simultaneously be making illegal NFA items. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A number of years ago someone did an analysis of crimes committed by NFA owners. The number was incredibly small. As I recall, there was only one documented arrest since 1868 for a violent crime being committed by an NFA MG owner, and that was by an ex policeman.

I doubt that owning a suppressor will put you on a “list”.

Some other olde Phart once said somethin to the effect of "if yer thinkin it's time to bury yer guns, it's prolly actually time to start putting them to use". We've seen that movie enough times to know the outcome..
Being "on a list" is same same.
I figger I might as well help by "watering it down" with our numbers. 🤪🤠

Or…they put up a good front, just so you’ll think that. Register one lower, then engrave another dozen 80% lowers to match.

Do the same thing with DIY cans.

😎😎😎🤣🤣🤣

I know some people that have gone through the process for form 1s or 4s and realized that no one ever checks whether it’s legal or not and just said screw it and started doing what they wanted with their personal property. If you only break one law at a time it’s very hard to get caught. For example trafficking drugs or driving to and from your private range with an unregistered MG. If all the lights on the vehicle work, tags are good, no speeding, no following too close, no window tint you could get away with it. Most “criminals” get caught because they’re stupid and/or lazy.

Not that i would ever do such a thing with a form1... but the rules say you're supposed to send to an SOT for repairs, right? well... where's the tracking on that?

but so am i...
i guess i better keep following all the laws and not committing 3 felonies a day
When the alphabet crew decides pistol braces are illegal there will be millions of felons around, what’s one more.

If you have a CCP you're on the list. Or a smart phone. Or a credit card. Or a facebook account. Or a... you get the point.

Anyone that tells you you're on a list... or the ATF is just going to show up at your door... or any of that other dumb stuff has no idea what they are talking about.
