Survival Food Review: Expired Can Food - Part 5: Turnip Greens & Ham!

Bottom line: The greens looked like they should and tasted like unseasoned greens out of a can. The ham looked, smelled and tasted like can ham. After cooking in bacon grease they tasted even better!

Great stuff. Obviously no gaurantees, but good info. Thanks for both sharing the results, and making the video s

How long do you think Dinty Moore will be good? I have a few older cans.

All depends on the storage conditions and the condition of the can. Stored in your house at room temps and no dents or rust I would expect up to 10 years. But there are no guarantees just my opinion based on my experience.

I would rather have a 10 year old can of ham, than a "25-year" freeze dried package of pasta alfredo.
It is nice to know it should be good for years after the 4 or 5 year shelf life on the can.

But IMO, some of that freeze dried stuff can be a good back up or addition to the canned meats, etc.
I do like Southwest Beans & Rice . . .

amateurs! Check this guy out. He tastes military food decades old!
Well, he didn't actually eat any of the 3 main parts. LOL
This video reminds me of 3 rules to look for, and throw the food away:
1) Bulges in the can, inflated bag
2) Leaking contents or significant rust on the outside. (any on the inside)
3) Foul smell (rancid nuts or oil).
