Anyone else go?

I'm an expert at ignoring the taunts of the carnival game vendors. I don't fall for their tricks or banter. I cruise right on by, keeping my $5 bills secure in my pocket.

The kids loved it. My wife and I survived.

Yup, went last weekend... We like the gardens, livestock, produce, and traditional exhibits and don't spend much time on the midway. We don't care for big crowds, but we always go early and have a good time.

Not a chance. Think I went about 15 years ago. There is zero upside for me and only possible problems.

I can cook better food at home, drink better drinks and hang out with better people.
You had me until no mention of riding better rides. Nevermind--not coming to your house now.

I love the fair. Not able to go this year which is the first time in about 7 years we will have missed. We always go early and leave early let the kiddo play a game of five then head home.

I miss going, but with a proposal due Wednesday, MIL needing extra attention, and wife with a work deadline...no time for the fair. It's very nostalgic for me - I used to show cows and pigs at the Saluda, Greenwood, Augusta, Orangeburg, and SC State (Columbia) fairs when in 4-H. We had to go every day and take care of the animals. I remember sitting in the car at the Saluda fair while I was a freshman in high school, working on an English paper after feeding my cows. I would run into my 4-H friends from other counties at the fairs. Washing cows on cold October mornings (a bucket of warm water with Wisk), wire brush for the hooves, big comb for the tail...I kind of miss all that. It's not the same now, though; things do change over time.

"So-and-so, please meet your family at the rocket." (If you ever used to go to the SC State fair...)

Went this morning. Spent too much to park, too much on stuffed animals and too much on food but my daughter smiled from ear to ear and had a blast and my pregnant wife got to satisfy her food cravings. Overall a great trip and worth it.

Wife and I went Thursday here in Columbia. Walked to the gate and saw they were running everyone through metal detectors. We turned around and went home. Damned if we'll disarm at the whim of some fairgrounds bureaucrat! Chalked up the five bucks parking fee to lessons learned.

They asked if I had a knife (always do)... I had to run back to put it in the truck or surrender it.
