SWAT team raids wrong house, injures infant

all this talk about requiring an Intelligence Unit/Officer to get the address right....If they can't do better than an Amazon driver, why are we letting them have guns and grenades?

And immunity et al.

Immunity is a whole 'nother discussion.

One of the benefits of having an intelligence unit, even if that's a single cop, is to pull in info from CIs, multiple LE agencies, other information, to clarify and confirm addresses and the right suspect. The whole 'he has not lived here for four years' or whatever can be somewhat mitigated with work like this, but it's also pretty common for family members to tell cops 'Skillet ain't lived here for years' when he's actually in hiding in the bathroom.

I wish I had an easy answer for the right address. That was a huge problem when I was a paramedic, especially in apartment complexes.

The suspect they are looking for is 14.
The are being outsmarted by a 14 year old.
It wasn't the wrong house number. The kid doesn't live at that address anymore.
I understand the thought that the homeowners might be lying, but I would like to know what information they presented to the judge who issued the warrant.
If I were that judge, I would have told them to STOP BEING OUTSMARTED BY A 14 YEAR OLD.

I want to know what they gave to a judge to justify a warrant, too. If the kid does not live there but that's the right address, someone is lying or they have bad info. Too bad there's not a way to figure out if it is bad info....oh, wait.

I'm pro Law Enforcement, I did it for 30 plus years! However I have some serious issues with this particular case. the main two:
1. This MUCH for a14 year old.
2. This one picture really disturbed me. WHY such a over kill on the use of force?

The mayor of Elyria, Ohio, has ordered an investigation after a woman alleged police officers who raided her home had the wrong address and deployed flash-bang devices that sent her 1-year-old to the hospital with burns.
However, police have offered a conflicting account of what happened on Jan. 10, saying they had executed a search warrant at the correct address and the child did not "sustain any apparent, visible injuries."

Elyria Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker called the accusations “serious and disturbing,” announcing on Saturday “a complete review of the incident.” He said body camera footage from the incident will be released later Tuesday.
The Elyria Police Department had obtained a court-authorized search warrant for a residence in the 300 block of Parmely Avenue as part of criminal investigation, police said in a news release Friday.
Courtney Price say police officers who raided her home had the wrong address and deployed flash bang devices that sent her 1-year-old son, Waylon, to the hospital with burns.

That warrant was executed that same day at 2:12 p.m.
The Elyria Police Special Response Team deployed two diversionary devices, known as “flash-bangs,” outside the residence, made repeated announcements, entered the home and found a woman and her 17-month-old child inside.

UPDATE. I missed Chiefs post on the 1st page. Glad the family was compensated. Still there should be some asses fired and possibly criminal charges at least misdemeanors. Just my thoughts.

So I have tried and failed so far....this 14 year old is wanted for being a serial killer right? Couldn't be all this for anything less right?
He skipped study hall. We all know that's a class 1 grade A unpasteurized crime.

link plz? or wait, are those the low power ones? I want the type that burns the hole in my pocket.

I bought mine several years ago from Wicked Lasers. I bought their Spyder 3 Arctic blue laser in 1,000 mW and 2,000 mW over 10 years ago.

I think their website isn't shipping any more.

There are other handheld laser sites, though. Check them out!

And the prices now are significantly less than what I paid for mine.

WORD OF CAUTION:

Lasers of these powers are Class IV and most definitely are NOT toys. The briefest of flashes in the eyes from these can cause permanent eye damage.

And yes, though can burn stuff with these.

Use eye protection and if possible, buy ones with safety features which prevent children (and stupid people) from accidentally turning them on.

If you want to get high powered lasers like this, DON'T get IR lasers. Not only are they also just as powerful as any other, the IR beam is outside the human visible spectrum. This means no visual cues that the laser is on or where it's pointing.

Shades of Baby Bou Bou, a toddler that took a flash-bang grenade to the face from a Cornelia SWAT team executing a no-knock warrant in Georgia 10 years ago.

The officers involved?

No criminal indictments.

The family eventually won a civil lawsuit that cost the taxpayers $3.614 million to the family, not counting all the legal expenses. Not a dime of which came out of the police department budget.

I was about to say “again”
And post the same.

Wait a minute….that kid is either special needs OR he got injured so badly that he is on a ventilator with a tracheotomy to breath with which would certainly be consistent with burns to the face….some one has some splaining to do as Schultz says

maybe he wouldn't quit resisting

I get mistakes happen but to me what makes this so bad is that the whole damn squad and the chief lied until they were proven wrong by the neighbors camera.
As though anyone was going to believe their "we flashbanged ourselves outside the home" lie in the first place.
