Hello guys I am wanting to take my son trout fishing and camping at Cherokee in the next week or so. I have heard several guys say it would be good fishing but I am not a advid camper or trout fisherman. I love to bass fish. Used to go camping back in the day. What's the campground where it wouldnt be packed off the beaten path on the river or something. Any tips are welcome. I am very familiar with the West jefferson/boone/sugar mnt side of the mnts not Cherokee asheville side of the world. Thank yall in advance Thomas.

I apologize I didn't know where to post this in camping section or fishing section

First time you might be better off staying at the KOA in Big Cove and fishing the ponds. You’ll have to Wade the river to fish it well.

Regardless of where you stay the ponds are open to the public with a Tribal fishing license. You have to have the Tribal license to fish in Cherokee anywhere.

the Cherokee "area" has some zero-cell-service locations.
if you and/or your son can endure no phone, fine.

Is the Wolf Campground ok for tent camping?. I honestly want to tent camp and go wading in the river my son wants the old school real deal experience. Super good kid I am very fourtunate. I asked my dad 100 times to take me trout fishing as a kid and he never done it from working all the time.

Not sure but the river is a lot bigger down where it's at. Looks like they are between Cherokee and Bryson City. Depending on how old your son it, that's some bigger water for sure. The KOA is on the upper part of Raven's Fork and the water is not as deep and more wadable. You can access the river from the campground and you can fish the ponds on the road side.
