Started this and figured some here would find it interesting.

Got my lower in finally ordered on the 28th Oct. got it the 7th Nov. Seems like packages take longer the closer they get don't it?
Other than the kit I suggest a 1/2" nut and bolt and two 1/4" nut and bolt.
Tools I plan to use will be channel locks, vise grips and a small pair of needle nose vise grips.

This will take me awhile to do as I have to borrow/buy a 1-3/16" tap for the buffer. Hard to justify a $60 tool for one use. On tapping for the buffertube I suggest not doing it by hand.

This is definitely interesting, but for $60 you could have a forged lower. Just sayin.

next up is the trigger housing.
using a 1/4 inch bolt in the mag release hole and clamp for tacking.
tack at front and rear corners if you weld the thin parts now it will bow.
line both subassemblies up and tack together

I got rushed and missed a couple pics on this part.
The PG slides into the notch on the trigger guard area and 2 tabs get welded one on each side

This is the first time I've seen something like this. Pretty cool.

Clamp first side for trigger box, if holding the rifle to fire this will be the right side, with smaller notch for bolt release channel.
Next is the right side mag well clamped and tacked.

Just wanted something different and doing a 80% lower is not possible for everyone so thought I'd share.

That's cool, I wasn't aware that such an animal even existed.

I screwed up tapping for the buffertube and am waiting on parts to be made. Will update soon I hope.

Any questions or just want better pics just let me know.

Wish I would have seen this earlier. I have the buffer tap and could have just mailed it out and you mail it back when done.

Never heard of such a creature... Pretty cool. A steel AR lower is interesting. Someone needs to make a steel upper to match...

Great write up so far. I'll be followin' this one!

I have done 80% percent forged before and enjoy building them. This has a lot of neat possibilites for finishing. I think I will order a few tommorrow.

this looks neat, i wonder with jb welding would work if you dont have access to a welder?

Pretty neat.
What is it 1/4 or 3/16"?
You could do torture tests parking a semi on it. Find some fan boy to donate a high end forged unit for comparison.
