The Little Kid Things You (Still) Do

OK, go to the library :)

Oh man. I miss those summer days when mom would drop us off at the library. I would tuck into a corner and read horror, sci-fi, and war books and make a list of words I had to look up after the fact.

I don't think I've been to a library in the last decade. Is it just where homeless people poop and hang out in the AC now?

Were you one of those who read encyclopedias (I did)?

Wow. We had a set from 1967 that belonged to my mother's father. She was orphaned by a gas explosion at a young age, and that was the only thing she had from him. I remember having to do a report/presentation on the moon landing, and it wasn't even in there!

We ended up getting a set through some Harris Teeter program where in you received one per month. I was so excited about that at the time. I would honestly rush home and read and draw pictures of every animal, cover to cover.

For Christmas one year, my parents found a complete set of 70s Funk&Wagnalls Wildlife Encyclopedias at a yard sale. I was enthralled and probably spent the entire year drawing and reading out of those books every day after school. I still have them somewhere.
