Top Gun 2.

The F-5s they used as aggressor aircraft in the original were also the fictional Mig 28s, unless they were T-38s. I can't recall. I wonder if the Navy aggressor aircraft and the enemy aircraft this go around will be F-16s dressed up as Russian Mig 56s?

The Kelly Mcgillis (Charlie) character should be interesting. She'll fit right in with today's social climate.

Sorry if I'm insulting any Top Gun fans. I thought the original movie was laughable and surprisingly so given the involvement of the US Navy, their fighter pilots, and their expertise in the production of the movie.

I wonder how this one will turn out.

Have never saw the first movie, and if I'm lucky, never will

I thought that Cruise was too young for the part in the original, Mark Harmon older and taller.

Actually, that's one of the more accurate aspects of the first movie. Cruise was around 23 years old in 1986. That's about the age of a First Lieutenant flying a carrier based fighter for the US Navy.

There have been young women that age flying Strike Eagles for the USAF and Hornets for the Navy.

The first movie could have been so much better had they used British Tornados as the fictional Mig 28s or something similar, left out the romance crap, and dropped hokey scenes such as the volleyball scene where the characters think they're world class bodybuilders.

But I guess it would have been more like a documentary than a movie if they produced it in that manner. But it really was terrible, IMO.

My guess is that the pilots will be women and the love interest will be the male bartender, but ultimatly the ladies fall for each other.

Loved the first movie. An icon of the 80s. I saw it days before going to the airshow at Oshkosh. Every branch had a bump in enlistments (and in the Navy, commissioning's), but the Navy went up 500%.

Thank you. I was feeling unloved.

Oops. Sorry. I perused this section for another thread before posting mine. I was looking for the words "Top Gun" and didn't put two and two together with regards to your thread title.

Goose dying was a pivotal moment of my formative years.

Up til then I thought ejecting was full proof. Now Is rather ride the baby all the way down and take my chances.

Charlie lives in/outside of Asheville. Arden area, I believe. Think she had a home invasion or some other sort of confrontation on her property recently.

well, they Have to Make it NOW before Drones or AI or Robots fly ALL the missions.
of course, there's that Sex Robot on the horizon. he/she could be the end of all combat.

Just drop a bunch of sex bot goats in the Middle East and itll solve itself

I enjoyed top gun but not enough to feel offended by others opinions of it. Lol.

The story was crap I’ll admit. What I enjoyed was the flying scenes and the part where he’s telling her he was keeping up international relations. Lol.

The rest I could have done without.

@Chdamn's Wife just said “I just liked the volleyball scene”.

Edit, and Kelly looked like a worn out cougar next to Tom cruise. That was probably one of the worst hollywood couplings of all time.

Although I was harsh in my criticism of the movie above, I too enjoyed the flying scenes of course. The music at the end with Cheap Trick's "Mighty Wings" was an awesome choice for the end as the two F-14s are taking off at dusk with full burners as well. I thought it just had some terrible moments in the movie that for me, could have made the movie much better without those scenes.

Ghey

The Final Countdown is a better movie

That was a great movie. I had to log on just to give you a "Like".

Can you imagine sitting out on a boat in the Pacific back in the '40's and two F-14s come screaming right over just off the deck? Lol.

Or being those two Zero pilots when they come screaming in on your six.

I’m spending the week watching F-35s, which would be a great choice except no Goose. A-10 has the same problem, and it’s ugly except when it’s working.

I was a young teen when I saw this movie shortly after it came out. I thought it was okay, but for some reason I liked the F-16 more than the F-15 (still do, actually), so I preferred Iron Eagle.

Also Iron Eagle didn't have a sex scene that made the movie really awkward to watch with your parents in the room.

Lord that reminds me of Exit to Eden, a movie that my mother took me and my wife to...it was very uncomfortable, we don’t speak of it.

You’re gonna have to go ahead and infract yourself for that grave mistake of calling an F-14 and F-15. Oh yes, I’m going full-tilt airplane geek on you! You done picked the wrong fight with a Tomcat fanboy!!!

Ugh. That was a typo. I definitely know the difference between the F-14 and the F-15. One is a superior air combat aircraft, and the other is kind of cool because it can land on an aircraft carrier. :D

Well......

If you want an AC to blow another out of the sky at 110+ nautical miles, the Tomcat is the big dog. But I think the Eagle gets the nod in a close-in dogfight (says another airplane geek :D)

And that capability is gone. [emoji1304]

As bad ass hot shot dogfighting is, I’d much prefer to overwhelm my opponent with all sorts of cheats and hacks of over the horizon obliteration. Phoenix for the win!

As for maneuverability: the Turkeys I saw fly at air shows could get pretty darn jenky in the air. And for ground pounding, the BombCat was just starting to get dialed in when they sent them to the boneyard.

Our naval aircraft fleet is so friggin boring and vulnerable due to everyone being a jack of all trades. Air Force is heading that direction when the 35’s go live—and the Navy will slip even further into vulnerability.

15’s are bad ass. But 14’s beat up 15’s, take their lunch money, and steal their girl friends.
