I've got a nice collection of DA/SA P series Sigs, no P239 in the stable, and a P365 for 'to lazy to put a belt on' CCW. The P365 is accurate, easy to shoot, and I've had zero problems with any ammo. I like it, but don't LOVE it. Most of the time I CC a P229/40SW. I had a P239 in 40SW years ago and stupidly sold it. I read in the forum another member traded their P365 for a P239 and that got me thinking about the same. The P239 would replace the P365 (I realize the weight difference). I realize that I'm the only one that can realistically make the decision - but I'd like others opinions - esp since the P239 is discontinued - and I can probably get a P365 at any LGS at this point.
So, given the chance to trade - thoughts?

Personally, I say go for it. You've tried the 365 and formed your opinions, do the same with the 239. It may be a home run, it may not be. But like you say, if the 239 isnt right, the 365 is available many places for the switch back. It may cost you a bit more in the long run, but you never know until you try.
Another option is sell the 365 and just keep carrying the 229. I did a lot of trading, buying, selling while looking for the 'perfect' carry gun, too, and would carry a CZ P01/PCR in between the switches. Finally quit chasing unicorns and stuck with the P01/PCR. I just made anew habit to never be too lazy to put on a belt lol

Just buy whatever makes you excited to practice and happy to carry.

I’m selling a P365XL because, while Sig nailed the width, they made the grip frame so short front-to-back that it’s basically unusable at speed. Trigger reach is awkward, indexing off the draw is weird, and there’s no contact on the offhand side of the gun for the support hand.

The P239 is similarly slim but has a more conventional trigger reach and front-to-back grip length.

“Discontinued” means nothing if you can buy a few spare mags, spare mag springs, and a few spare recoil springs in advance. The only concern would be if you could not purchase those consumables.

Buy it! The P239's are nice.

The magazines are scarce, some were going for $100 each on eBay a couple of years ago. MecGar was pumping them out for a while after the 2018 discontinued announcement by Sig. Chances are they were making them for Sig all along as the oem. I haven't look lately. I got very lucky at a gun show, guy had 4 brand new ones in the wrapper for a good price. Also snagged an oem P239 parts kit from eBay after the announcement.

I've read a few threads on the Sig forums claiming the P225A1 magazine bodies are the same, but require a base plate change and that some parts are interchangeable with the P239. I'd confirm that with Sig before I went that route, especially for a carry gun.

A family member got me a gift certificate for my 365 when they came out. I got one and went straight to his house to show and thank him. As he fondled it, he said, "This makes my Kahr PM9 and Sig 239 obsolete." I told him that just because the Sig is smaller/more rounds, doesn't make it better for him. He shoots the 239 like a handgun sniper (retired SWAT Sgt).

He tried my 365 - and stayed with his beloved 239. It's not always the size or capacity - but the hits (as everybody knows).

For me with average hands, the 365XL usually wins the day if I'm not stylin' with a P7. :)

I’ll just say if your a true sig person you will not be disappointed with a p239 in your collection regardless if you keep the 365 or not.

I looked at a 239 awhile ago and was seriously tempted.

The biggest turnoff for me, as stated above, is magazine cost. I'd like a dozen or so mags for any serious guns and that just ain't happening at $100 a pop

I just looked at ebay and the magazine prices are around $30 to $45, so not that bad. I would get the P239. You can always get another P365 later if you want to. For the days when the P229 feels to big, the P239 is a lot easier to carry and conceal.

I really liked my P 365 but I'm more of a revolver guy ,so I sold the Sig and have no regrets on doing so..At work I carry my dept issued S&W 2.0 M&P 9mm. I shoot it fairly well but not as good as the P226 that we had before the S&W. To me the 226 is the best one in the P series Sigs.My EDC now is a j frame S&W witbh 2 speed loaders. If you like the Sig p239 I say go for it

My dept used to use 226's and 228's (then 229's, now 227's)......the 228's are my favorite.

Might want to look at a P225-A1 as well, very similar in shape/size as a 239, and probably a bit more available as they were only recently discontinued. As others have said though, mags etc. can be a pain (read: expensive)

All in all, I love my 225A1, but an M11-A1 would probably have been better for me - only a scoche larger but double capacity.

Edit: re-read original post... 225 is 9mm only, and looks like OP is wanting 40S&W, so ignore me :D

Your P365 serves a purpose and is vetted.

Pragmatism says keep it instead of scratching the itch for something new.

I don't like my 239. Love the 365 but I traded to the p365X as soon as I had the chance. Extra length on the grip and flat trigger had me sold. Even passed on the 365XL for the 365X

For those looking for 239 mags in 357:

My understanding is that even used P239 mags go for $100. Seems like a steal!
