This claims to be non class III but how can one be sure

I have always just assumed that the ATF considered any device that lowers the decibels to be an NFA suppressor.
These folks claim this thing isn't while also claiming it does suppress the blast noise level.
Are they correct? Or will ATF come door busting?

There are other devices labeled as blast cans that are a lot cheaper and don't claim to reduce noise.
Reduction at the ear point of the shooter or those parallel isn't necessarily a reduction in total noise. That may be the line they are walking.

Sig was kind of silly about it. Their “brake” was so blatantly a monocore and iirc there were plans to allow you to F1 and buy the outer tube.

Witt’s version definitely walks the line but they can make the argument that it is not and was not designed or intended to reduce sound, unlike Sig’s.
 
Almost every silencer manufacturer out there offers a blast shield/flash can for their QD mounts.

It’s 1/2-28 5.56. Almost all of mine are the pointy version, but the last couple it got with silencers were the new style, and I bought 1-2 from the BST.

There is more to the SME then just a simple blast shield. The way the mount is shaped and the way the SME fits the muzzle brake damn near acts as baffles, but they have channels in the side to specifically not trap expanding gases.

I know there is one manufacturer out there, PWS, that makes one of these devices that actually has a single baffle (blast chamber) that is still not class 3.....
If memory serves someone is selling one in the accessories thread too....

Exactly. They redefine things on a whim in order to create fake felons overnight. The MA AG Maura does that all the time to MA residents. She acts up every time she wants to audition for a federal appointment. She's bucking for federal appeals court or DOJ/FBI appointment all the time.
