this is what i get to protect me at work

I made the decision about 10 years ago I would never again work somewhere I couldn't carry. And if at all possible I stay out of anywhere I can't carry.

First notice I said "can't" and "not allowed to". Can't only applies to places where I will be checked. I don't consider someone else's opinion of whether or not I can arm myself to be valid.

How old is that rear guy? 12? It could be they were nervous with the cameras there, but that looked awfully sloppy. I freely admit I don't have the training, that just looked off to me.

C'mon, he's got tat sleeves and gum. He's an operator!

They did say it's the first time they've practiced it. It still goes against current wisdom that waiting until your team can fully assemble to go in is a mistake.

Reactions: SPM
Not to play devils advocate but having been a part of drills like this, they really do expose weaknesses in the training of the personnel. We had one recently and EMS personnel either knew triage, rapid deployment or were clueless. So, now we had to back up and re teach it to everyone so they knew their roles, and what to anticipate. Law Enforcement did the same as they had a lot of learning and growing pains with realizing what was and wasn't going to happen once everyone was incorporated into the training. Just be glad they are training instead of just assuming all is ok and it won't happen here.

Not just clownshoes, but now public clownshoes, so bad guys not only know security is incompetent, but also know the TTPs as well....

That DHS video that most companies play show an older guy blocking the office door with a potted plant and hiding with lights out
while the young lady grabs a pair of scissors and is ready to be her own first responder.
I like fire extinguishers a lot. I can't have any weapons at FT or PT jobs.

There is plenty wrong with that video without having to go for the fat jokes...
I have exactly zero training or experience in law enforcement or small unit tactics which makes me a rank amateur.
And that video looks like a bunch turds who know even less than I do and never touched a gun before last Tuesday.

It’s good that they’re training, but this video shows why being forced to rely upon others or dial a prayer is a ludicrous philosophy that has nothing to do with safety and security, but rather control.

There are a lot of good things about working at a small business and being able to carry is at the top of the list. Almost all of the employees at my place of business carry or have a firearm in their office.

I recently got an email to do a required online training for “deadly intruder in the work place”. In today’s PC world, you’d think they would have a better way to word that. Sadly no firearms at work for me.

That just had an armed group of kids go nuts in the parking deck at Baptist last week….they caught them, but not until after they had accosted two different people with a gun, ran their stolen car into someone elses car…. Was nuts. bunch of kids.

Hmmmmmmm…...well....at least they are trying. I'd rather have this group on board than one that had NEVER tried this exercise. Ft. Bragg used to pay civilian security experts to train personnel. Perhaps they should go back to that. Or at the very least, rethink this particular response team.

Don't worry. I have plenty of firearms for both of us and I'm only 5 minutes away. But you'll have to do the tactical stuff, I ain't clearing shit. I will however wait outside for the intruder to come out into the open :D

I believe @Chuckman works at Duke hospital, which would put him in the "educational property" category, like I am. I too could likely carry and nobody would be the wiser, but being educational property the penalty is more than losing your job. Having made the determination that I will not go to prison getting caught with a weapon would have the same outcome as getting caught by a violent and homocidal criminal. The fact that given my travels on educational property, put that probability, while not zero as this has happened to people, lower than the likelihood of getting caught up in a search, which has also happened.

Consequently, in my case the risk posed by carry is greater than the risk of not carrying, but then I don't work in the ER either.

@SDIVER2006 , that is a risk, which @noway2 has pointed out. The likelihood of getting searched is about nil. In fact, I haven't heard of any employee getting searched. I pass a ton of 'security' every day; maybe two actual LEOs.

But with where I work my options of egress are multiple. I can get out of just about any place through multiple exits. My ability to move and communicate is a better use of 'me' than being a potential target when those LEOs DO come, and come quickly they will. And if they see 'me' with a gun, in a situation which warrants a lot of guns being out and adrenaline pumping, I am more likely to be a victim.

Agreed. I hate the double standard where government permits (carry should not be subject to a permit of any sort) it's own agents to carry in places where mere subjects are denied. It is not only a fundamental wrong it makes little sense from the qualification standpoint. It's all about control.

I worked on Bragg for a year doing building controls work on new construction. This was in the tora bora area off chicken road. I hated going on post because of all the acp bs. I left that job and haven't been on post since. I even let my membership to mckellars lapse. Just wasn't worth the headaches.

Who’s gonna protect you from them? o_O

Okay, now back to the issue of “protecting us” ... honestly I do not count on any protection outside of myself (and maybe wife and kid to pitch in). First, TIME ... unless you are lucky the likelihood of having a security or LEO near you when something happens is not very high ... and it takes time for “protection” to get there so you are on you own. Second, those responding are not likely to rush straight in, handle the situation and save your butt ... they will need to step back at least a few seconds and assess what is happening ... more TIME passes. Third, they aren’t perfect so you are not our of the crappé until you are out of the situation ... more TIME in harms way. I fully admit I am a selfish bastard and as I get older more selfish. I will not act to save the day ... I will act to save my family and my own ass ... sorry but trouble comes in one door I am looking to make out the nearest other and those others besides my loved ones that follow are welcome but don’t count on me other than as something to point a possible way out. If I have no way to go yes I will fight but it is to save my own butt not somebody else’s.

Sad to say but I do not feel responsible for 99% of the public because of their own “sheepish mentality” ...
