Looking to buy my first suppressor in the near future. Silencer Shop kiosk seems to be the standard for ease of paperwork processing. Do y'all recommend going that route, or does the ease of use not offset the cost in your opinion?

I prefer to just find a local dealer and deal directly with them.

But I can understand how first timers seem to be attracted to their system.

I used a local fingerprinting service to give me an EFT file. I was able to use that to order locally through THSF, remotely through Capitol Armory (delivered to my door), and for my Form 1s. I much prefer this route, honestly.

I’m following because I’m also looking to pick up my first. I love the idea of capital armory shipping straight to me. I’ve heard they will basically walk you through the process as well. Does anyone know of a dealer that is reasonable on transfers in the Triad area? The closest one to me charges $150 and that seems like it would offset any would be deal I can find online.

If you’re using CA, there’s no transfer fee. Just making sure you understood that.

Or maybe you have two completely different thoughts/topics in one paragraph.

I’d also say don’t be afraid to drive a bit to use a good dealer. Not like you’re going multiple times a week to a place all year.

silencer shop makes it VERY easy, and they check your paperwork before they have you do the e-signature and submit it for you.
It's great for beginners. Go for it. Once you get comfortable with the process, branch out into other methods. I recommend making SBRs so you can get familiar with eforms.
I caught a few mistakes the FFL made on my recent transfer, but missed one. crap happens. It will probably get rejected and i'll try again next time I submit something.
If there are questions - ask here, we'll help. And by "help" i mean we'll do this: @BigWaylon

I’ve used the SS program multiple times. First time is a bit of a paper chase but a lot easier with follow-up purchases.

I’m very tempted to buy another .22 and a dedicated 5.56 just for the heck of it to experience the turnaround times.

I've personally done a couple of transactions thru both Silencer Shop and Local Dealers using EFT files and other software available to e-file your form 4. I will say that if you can find a dealer who is proficient with Silencer Shop and knows the system well, it's the easiest transaction you can make. Once you have your SS profile setup and all your information in the Kiosk, subsequent purchases are a breeze. You can purchase on-line, assign the can to your account, docu sign your forms, then certify remotely. All without ever having to leave your home. The only visit you have to make is to your dealer of choice to pick up your new toy. I've gotten two individual form 4's thru SS in less than 2 days from certifying. Total time from purchase to receiving my approval was 5 days for dealer in-stock items. Granted, I had great service and turnaround times from other methods mentioned above as well. I just think SS makes the process a little more streamlined and easy to use.

Thank you!

Yea sorry about that. I’m bad about lumping everything together when I type. I do not know of many dealers around me (336) that do NFA transfers. The first one that pops up on a google search is pricey.

I wouldn’t mind driving if I knew of a good one within reasonable distance. I need to do more research and see what’s out there.

Thanks again! I am excited to get some cans!

Bought my last 6 through SS. Seamless, easy process. Especially after you go through the fingerprint kiosk....ordering more is very easy, and you will.

My SS experience sucked.
I bought thru Fuquay gun without a hitch though , Colin was awesome there.

The other two I bought online with Capitol Armory and much prefer them to SS. Far superior.

Go to Clayton Guns and you can patronize a local dealer *and* use the Silencer Shop kiosk.

I used the SS kiosk at OnPoint because the convince of using my suppressor at the range while it is in jail appealed to me. My only regret is doing the single shot trust as it looks like the wait time for a trust is 166 days vs 53 for individual.

Saw this on the NFA Approval Megathread on Reddit:

These wait times are all over the map. Why is it so inconsistent?

Thank you!

The forum has a sponsor just down the road from you. I believe they can handle NFA. Have you contacted @CountrySide Gunsmithing?

I ordered online, had it shipped to Gunners Alley, went in and e-filed at his shop then went back to pick up once the stamp was issued

Thank you!

Come see us and we can talk cans...

JFYI.... cans are "gateway drugs" to MGs. 😁

Been reading this thread and have a question
Is it better to submit as individual or as a trust ?
Completely up to you. Nobody can make that decision for you.

Right now it seems that’s individuals can be faster.

But trusts give you some flexibility in who can be in possession, and what happens when you die.

Individual... unless you have a big group of friends/family that needs to "share" the items
I wouldn’t even say it had to be a big group. Even with just two people, like a father & son, it makes a lot of sense.

I use Silencer Shop at my local stores a, first time is a bit of a process but as others have said every subsequent purchase is super easy. Last year my first can took 8 months (Feb-Oct), last month I had an SBR and a suppressor approved in 5-7 days.

I've seen some not overly complex trusts come in within a week or so. All things considered that isn't bad either. Individual will be faster but it's not like trust are still taking 9months

Quick question...

If you file as individual, and later want to transfer to a trust...

Issues? Difficult?
Not difficult. No issues. Just $200 and the paperwork.

I’ve done it twice.

Cool, and good to know.

This is going to cost me... Lol!
You’re the transferee and the transferor, so you maintain possession the whole time. No FFL involved. Just you as an individual and then any RP(s) on the trust.

If you have any questions down the road, just ask.

@BigWaylon

Awesome! Thank you for the heads up and offer! Will definitely keep this in mind.

Figured to just do the individual route for now, and later when I have time to figure it all out, set up the trust.
