Toby Keith has passed away

At no point did I ever think to myself, "I like Toby Keith"
Never.
As they just did their obituary to him on 2 Guys Named Chris I realized how many hit songs he really had. Holy smokes, he had a lot I was familiar with and Im not even a country guy. Still not a fan, honestly. The rah-rah pro-war stuff doesnt sit right with me. But what a collection of hits.

All that said, shame for his friends, family, and fans. Sixty-two is young and cancer freaking sucks

You gotta remember the time those rah rah songs came out. Many people sang about 9/11 and the sad stuff. Toby Keith was one of the few that sang about Uncle Sam shoving a boot up their ass. I can't say it was wrong with what had happened.

A friend had a ticket to his show and she suddenly had nobody to go with. She took me along even though I wasn't interested in the guy.
The quality of his show was amazing. It was a giant production, and everything was on point.
The franchise restaurants sucked though. Can't win 'em all.

He was a great patriot.

My wife's niece's husband was killed in Iraq; he loved Toby Keith "American Soldier ". A bunch of people tried to get Toby to come perform it at his funeral; it would have been a circus. He sent a CD from his home studio he cut just for the widow, along with a handwritten copy of the lyrics.

When Dave was interred at Arlington, radio stations across the country simulcast "American Soldier"; Toby Keith called in to G. Gordon Liddy's radio show just prior and talked about Dave and his widow, as the intro to the song on Liddys show.

That's the kind of care he had for the troops. He didn't say anything about the stuff he sent the widow; he just did it privately.

Oh I get when they were put out/why they were released.
Doesnt change my opinion.

Good on him for being involved with our troops, USO shows etc

My love affair with country music ended more than 3 decades ago, as I began to expand my taste and listen to a larger variety of music. However, there were some country music singers and their songs still found away to touch me. Toby was one of those artist.

Rest In Peace Sir

I’m guessing he’s not singing, ‘What Do You Think Of Me Now’ any longer.

Aww crap. I agree with HMP on music, again! This cannot be a good sign…

He has given me the greatest gift I think a stranger could have given me when he released, "I want to talk about me."

I'll start telling my wife something about my day and almost without fail, she'll interrupt with, "Yeah. Let me tell you what so and so did at work today."

I let her go on a minute or two then I'll just belt out, "I wanna talk about meeeee!"

Thank you, Toby Keith.

RIP

Way back , mid 90s ,

I was a bouncer at the Saddlerack in San Jose . He came for a concert.
I came in early and help load up his gear onstage and he handed out T-shirts for his Boomtown Tour . Shirt had ‘Local Crew’ on the front.
So show is over, he’s out back taken pics and signing autographs and stuff as we were breaking down and loading his truck up.
As I came up behind him and a fan , I yelled , “ Quick, take it”. The girl taking the pic swings the camera and “click/flash”
Toby turns around and looks at me WTF…. lol

Took a good couple months and the girl found me to give me the picture

Very cool!

I had not seen this until today. Apparently it was his last performance. You can tell he’s bad off. I can’t imagine there was a dry eye in the house.
