I got back home late last night just to find we were low on fire wood, and I have a pile of chores to get done before bad weather sets in. As I was working on stacking the wood I have spent all day chopping, the “thought” came creeping in, why are we homesteading, why are we farming, this is so much work all the time, I’m tired, I’m sore, it would be easier to stop and just go and live “normal”. Those of y’all that homestead understand the massive amount of work that goes into this lifestyle...

Then I looked up
I saw starts strung across the sky
I became still
The silence of a winter night was broken by my daughter running through the house after bath time.
Thus I was reminded, I do this because it is right where God put me.
Genesis 3:19
19 By the sweat of your brow(A) you will eat your food(B) until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”(C)

I camped out spiritually in the "garden" for several years. The passage above was the punishment handed out to Adam for his disobedience. The Lord punished the serpent first, Eve next, and Adam last.

The first recorded question was "Where are you?"

The second was, "Woman, what have you done?

The first one " Where are you?" can be asked of us. The OP looked up and realized he was exactly where God wanted him to be. Taking care of family. I tell younger people that "taking care of your job is taking care of your family." How else do we feed them? clothe them? put a roof over their heads? Think of Adam that first night alone only with Eve. No place to live. Only the skins on their backs. No food. He had to be MacGyver and figure it out as he went. Imagine Eve with a couple of kids. She's at her wits end with them. She can't send them to their grand parents to baby sit. She's it.

"What have you done?" Imagine the guilt she lives with knowing that she got them evicted from their home. This is why women today deep down are insecure about their home and the importance of it and anything that threatens it.

Anyhow ramblings from someone stuck at work with nothing better to do than sit looking at CFF on his phone.

Guys and gals, "know where you are." As for me, " I'm just a pilgrim passing through. One day God is gonna call and want his dirt back."

@Cluck Norris it's worth it!
We did it for ~25 years while the kids were home. I was the bread winner, my wife managed the home, and home schooled five. I had the same feelings when an ice storm or thunder storm would knock down trees & taking out fencing. Frequently I had to find & round up horses or cows that wandered off.
Looking back as a grandfather I wouldn't have had it any other way (OK, I won't rule out having Musk's wealth). My sons are amazing men, and VERY thankful for how they grew up.
A bonus was we fixed the homes up, a lot, and had a lot in equity to buy wooded land I dont have to mow.
