As of today, contractor's price for 3/4 x 4 x 8 OSB tongue & groove is $43.71/sheet + tax.

Meanwhile, a 7/16 x 4 x 9 OSB sheet is $39.42/sheet + tax.

At this rate, you might as well go with the zip system and save $$ on house wrap.

Yep, we gave our son 2.5 arches of land behind our house to build on. Now he cant afford to build a doghouse on it! I was in Home Depot last week and 2x4s were going for $8 a piece! I need to replace my back deck, it’s 16x24 and after pricing wood, concrete was cheaper.

Yep. It's nuts. I was looking for ply for a concrete form 2 weeks ago and was stunned. At that time, 7/16 OSB was over $37, and 3/4 B/Cwas $70+.

It's unbelievable...

Also heard from the owner of the local hardware store. All things pvc pipe related are about to go poof. Can't get petroleum based pipe cause they can't make it because the factories can't get it...

With the housing market at such a severe shortage the future is in construction and the materials are to be in high demand until the economy crashes or the house numbers meet the demand. Last time around the market was set up to give anybody that could sign a note a loan but that played out when half the loan holders couldn’t make the payments so this time around with the interest rates so low the investors are making their profits on the initial sales price. Get ready for astronomical pricing, before you know it we will all be millionaires living in a billionaire’s world. That will draw down the national debt in a hurry but at the same time draw us nearer to a war with China once they figure out they’ve been screwed by good ole Uncle Sam’s play on the dollar.

Wow good thing i'm on vacation. i'm sure remodeling is slow right now.
I want to add a shed roof to my outbuilding but 2x6x16's were $25/ea. a couple of weeks ago, I'll wait it out.

Lmao yeah right. Nothing will do that but out great great great grandkids
Every time we amass a great debt along comes good ole inflation to pay it off, it’s the American way! This inflation business works well on a national level but those countries that accept the dollar as payment to their labors get really riled up when they reflect on the purchasing power their dollars buys is half what it was a decade before. Sometimes war becomes the answer to such dilemmas. There are plenty that don’t particularly like our business practices but so far the thought of nukes keep them at bay. Not a very promising future for anyone’s offsprings so our scheme continues.

Nothing to do with the inevitable hyperinflation then?

We are getting ready to sign papers to list a house for sale. Hoping to take advantage of this market. Have another house that we want to renovate and expand. That part is on hold and we will wait and use the time to plan and work with an architect to do the design.

This is a fact!!! The shortage on this has already started.

As of 5/5, contractor's price for 3/4 x 4 x 8 OSB tongue and groove is $54.00/sheet + tax. 😠

Harbor Freight has sold out of their $2,200 Bandsaw Mill and Hud-Son says due to overwhelming demand they can't promise a date.

You know when hobbyist saw mills are running out of stock that the lumber market is retarded.

And that's why we aren't building a 'house' and looking at barndo's instead

I believe the "lumber shortage" is 100% fabricated. My office is off a short spur line and I see dozens of railcars loaded with lumber go by 2-3 times a day headed for the Lowes flatbed distribution center. I also know of one or two mills that have more logs than they know what to do with.

There is NO lumber shortage here...NONE...Lowe's full, HD full and all the mills are full and processing lumber daily. Total Bull Shiite!! TOTAL!!!!
Nah it’s not. Good friend I shoot with is a construction supt. He’s been complaining since last year.

With all the hurricanes in the Gulf last year, the rigs were shutdown. No oil to make the PVC pipe and PVC electrical boxes. FIberglass boxes from Allied were used in the HGTV home that was recently awarded and is now on the market for sale.

FOX Maria Bartiromo reported lumber up 77% and corn up 50%. Throwing cash into the economy is pushing up prices.
Pres. Trump worked to help create peace in the Middle East, under Biden we have rockets being sent into Israel.
Ireland h as 9% corporate tax while Obama-Biden had 39%. Biden wants to increase corporate tax by one third.

I was told by a reputable source that its not the lumber jacks, saw mills, lumber yards or big box stores driving up the prices. They are holding on there % of profit like they have in the past.
The price hikes are coming from the big 5 timber companies in the country. The are making the most of the covid and the housing market.

There are no lumber or any construction materials shortages or lack of labor or chemicals. Companies have seen unprecedented demand at the processing centers. They are capitalizing on this boom. Just like there is no chicken shortage. Just a huge demand. The owner of a Mexican restaurant says chicken went from $40 for 40 lbs to $101. Chicken has always been available.

Uggh. I’m in the process of redoing mine and just now looking to see how many boards I wanted to replace. Hadn't priced them out yet, so this is what I needed to know.

Looks like instead of replacing whole boards, I’ll just cut the ends off of a few and put a short piece down. 😎

Do what I did on the deck I restored before we sold the house....i flipped more boards than I replaced and painted the entire thing with DeckOver. Voila like new

Pard, all I know is that HERE, there is lumber everywhere. Stacked deep in all the stores, mills and everywhere there is lumber to be sold. Plenty of it....PLENTY.........still High.

It's everywhere. There is no shortage, just some CEO's using the covid to pad their portfolios.

Too much of our trees owned by too few companies.

My daughters boyfriend works at a hardwood lumber mill. He said today that it looks like prices have started to go down at his level.

Most stick lumber has slowly leveled right now....it just needs to drop.
